Ok Fritz is not in the numbers I'd like to see him heading towards below 200. He is hovering in the uper 300"s

Wondering if I need to give a bit more units?

I do have the Prozinc Portocol and I am afraid to just start dosing as I was doing the sliding scale and he was what I think was bouncing.
Would love some advice and guidance :)

I also noticed that his bowel movements have been black and smelly. I did read on the Prozinc sheet that came with the insulin that it can turn it black.

Any one else experience this with their kitty? Should I be concerned?

Hmmm...he is kind of surfing along. You could certainly kick it up to 2.5 for a few cycles and see how he does. Remember, it's still early. It takes most people some time to find the dose that best works for their kitty.

Also, are you testing for ketones? That's something you want to keep an eye on while he's in those somewhat higher numbers.

You are doing GREAT with the testing! :)

Agreed. I don't see any number low enough to bounce from - we think a sudden unusual blue or green most likely causes a bounce. I think your dose can be raised too - maybe using the sliding scale. What do you think about 2.5 for 250 plus and 2.75 or 3 for 350 plus - on cycles you can monitor.

I checked ketones on March 31st negative @1:00pm :) and then again on April5th @9:30 pm negative :)
I did the sliding scale from March 25th stopped on April 2nd pm dose so all the numbers you see are on the sliding scale.
Should I keep trying the 12 hour dose? Raise to 2.5 for 250+ or 3 for 350+ ? The little bugger seems to run in the upper 300's most of the time.... I'd feel so much better if I could keep him in the l0w 200's.
Could you please take a look at the numbers on the sliding scale from March 25th -April 2nd. I was dosing pretty much every 6 hours with the exception of a few 8 or 9 hours trying to see if we could get lower numbers.
I;ll try whatever you suggest. :) If I go back to sliding scale how often should I dose?
Thank You! :)

I think I 'd try a raise in dose first every 12 hours. You can try dosing 3 times daily later but then I would dose every 8 hours (TID) and only if he is rising. Dosing when he is flat or falling can result in a roller coaster ride like he was on.

Perfect! I'll give it a try. Hope all is well with your DH!
Have a great day!
Appreciate your help!

In regards to the black stool have you heard of that? I did see it mentioned in the pamphlet from Prozinc but it didnt say anything about should I be concerned.

I never had black stools with prozinc, but it was smelly...would clear out my entire appartment. Is it like a coffee ground type look? If so I would get that checked out. In ppl, that type of thing is usually a GI bleed(gastrointestinal bleed)

that is what I was thinking too -it's called melana from a bleed in the upper GI track - we don't want to scare you though Is it like tar? I'll have to look at my prozinc insert and see what it says - I have never seen that mentioned on the forum

Thanks I'll have to see the next time. Hopefully it's not a gi bleed:( the last few smelt bad and kinda looked green

The first one after he was on Lantus was back and terribly smelly then the next few were smelly and some of it looked normal followed by the end of it dark colored either black or dark green.
I'm waiting to see how his next movement is he doesn't go but every 4 to 5 days.
I have sprinkled tiny bits of miralax. I've tried pumpkin and he refuses to eat it even mixed into food . The first one looked like tar but now more dark green. If the next one is still not normal I'll have to take him to the vet. He acts normal or vomiting.
