It has been a frustrating struggle getting enough blood to test McKinley's BG levels (McKinley has been outstanding during the process), but we did manage to get enough for testing 3 times in the past 3 days. Each time we withheld food from him for over 2-hours.

Results:
1/13/24: 78 (714pm)
1/14/24: 90 (705pm)
1/16/24: 86 (noon)

No insulin has been given to him since the AM of 1/12/24. I am not sure where to go from here?

You don't need to withhold food before testing his blood, unless it's a preshot test done just before shooting the insulin. But since you aren't giving insulin, just feed that boy!

I think that as long as he's giving you normal blood sugar numbers under 100, I wouldn't give insulin. Post here for help if the numbers do creep up. In the meantime, we consider a cat to be in remission from diabetes if you can go 2 weeks with them in normal numbers, and with no insulin. Keep testing until the 26th. And hopefully he won't need to go back on insulin. This could be a good problem to have. :)

How is McKinley other than his blood sugar values?

Question. I may have to sift back through all the information, but what is a healthy BG after he eats? I am sure this may vary for each cat(?) But is there a range? I did see what healthy numbers are for preshot to where you wouldn't want to give insulin.

Thanks for asking how McKinley is doing. He actually seems to have a more pep in his step since his episode. It seems he has been more playful and has more energy. We also have a 5-month old kitten that is keeping McKinley active and young :)
 
The normal range of a cat (on human meters) is mostly in the 50-80 range, but up to 100 can be OK too. It's also possible you'll see some numbers in the upper 40's too. I've seen that in one of my cats. If you see his numbers go over 100, feed him and see if that causes his pancreas to kick in and bring the numbers back down.

Glad to hear he's got a kitten keeping him busy!
 
Have you tried putting rice in a baby sock, warm it just slightly in the microwave and then hold against the ear? Make sure you test on back of your hand or wrist to ensure it’s not too hot, just needs to be warm.

Try that, when I was first starting with the pokes it really helped me.

Also, get yourself a good headlamp so you can see clearly.
