Hi

My cat Crushy is on Lantus and his normal Shot time is 10:15 am and 10:15 pm
Next Saturday night I know Im not going to be home until 11:30 or possibly 12
What should I do about that pm dose? Just shoot late and hope for the best or slowly start moving his shot times?

Also, when feeding small meals through the day with an automatic feeder is it a good idea to make the shot time meal bigger than the rest, or have them all equal sized? I saw another post about this and just wanted to clarify. It sounded like equal sized meals are good for OTJ kitties but a cat getting a shot might need a bigger meal at shot time?

Thanks

Re: not going to be home during normal shot time. what to do

You have a couple options regarding what to do when not home for shot time.

1) you can skip the shot and restart the next day - be prepared for the next day's number to be higher than normal

2) you can shoot late when you get home and then change the shot time - or if you want to maintain the current times, then slowly work your way back to it - by adjusting it by 15 minutes every day until you are back to your regular time

2 is doable, only if your schedule allows it.

Re: not going to be home during normal shot time. what to do

so giving him a partial dose later than normal is not a good idea?

Re: not going to be home during normal shot time. what to do

A partial dose may be acceptable and I have given them for mine in the past. However, it depends upon the PS and on BG history. I not that you have relatively log mid-cycle BG this sync compared to before. Thus, skipping may be best

Re: not going to be home during normal shot time. what to do

My suggestion is to test, feed & shoot as normal. In the morning, do the same, but make sure you have a least 10 hours from the previous shot. My schedule often changes and this is the method I used for caring for my cats. Since you test, you will know if it is safe to give the morning shot.

You can also skip the PM shot. Most likely the morning reading will be much higher than normal. Within a couple cycles it should go back to the normal range for Crushy.
