Hi Hope someone can help me. I'm very new to having a diabetic cat (4days now), and this is the first day home after being at the vet. I can't get my cat to eat!!!! He doesn't want any of his normal food, nor treats, nor what I'm eating (which is what he normally wants). He will drink water, but not much. My vet is closed for the weekends, and I don't know if I'm making too much out of this or not. I have given the Insulin shot per instructions, but I can't get him to each much at the time of the shot, nor any other time.

Hi, I'm a newbie myself, so I don't have any advice, but you might want to post this under "Feline Health."
You'll probably get more responses being that it's Saturday.
Hope your kitty eats soon!

Does he like yogurt? You might try some of that. I have some stuff called Forti-Flora that I mix with my cat's food when he turns his nose up and he loves it and will eat. You might have to force feed or try some beef baby food.

Hi there,

Not eating is nothing to mess with, and it is very important that you get him to eat something. Not eating is frequently a symptom of something else going on, so you will want to contact your vet if it keeps up. I would worry about giving insulin and no food.
In addition, cats who don't eat can get a very serious condition called fatty liver.

Can you try a different canned food, or all meat baby food?
Fortiflora is a good suggestion I get from the vet but its available online also.
I use a small baby spoon (or soft plastic spoon) and wipe a small blob on his upper palate.
sometimes I make mini meatballs and offer them on my hand.
freeze dried salmon crumbled over the top of his dinner.
canned tuna oil or water poured over food
some folks syringe feed watered down cat food
any human food, espec protein like meat, eggs, fish.
I would even feed dry food or dairy if all else failed-
