Not diabetes related, but odd behavior

This is a weird one: My non-diabetic cat Buddy was in his litterbox today and suddenly he jumped up, hissed three times and growled at the litterbox. Then he kept turning around and looking behind himself as though someone had goosed him. As far as I could see, he'd only urinated. Then he jumped out of the box and proceeded to gallop up and down the apartment about eight times at full speed.

It was....weird. I worry that the growling might indicate a UTI infection of some sort, but I've honestly never heard him do that before. Advice?
 
If that was happening to one of my furkids, I'd be taking them into the vet the next day and also getting a urine sample to bring with me if any, as close to the appt. as possible.

I have a special long handled spoon that I use for taking urine samples as they won't go in a box with a teeny bit of the plastic litter.

I quietly wait and watch til they go in the box and gently from behind (they can't see what I'm doing) and when they are in mid stream and get a spoon full. My other hand has the little syringe they give you for sucking up the pee and then I suck the stuff up over the toilet and put the rubber stopper on that comes with the syringe. Done!

But seriously, if he does this again tonight, you need to take him in to have it checked out. My kitties act like your Buddy is doing when they are in pain like that. V
 
Looks like Buddy is just a neurotic cat after all.

Took him to the vet. No blockage, no crystals, no constipation. She did an X-ray on his abdomen and hips to make sure there was nothing funky going on. His blood work came back fine (we were frankly both surprised at this, being as Buddy is the fat cat who should have gotten diabetes and Stinkyboy is skinny as a rail). Buddy does show two fused vertebrae at the base of his spine from an old trauma; we think that happened when he was still a kitten and living as a feral on the streets. It doesn't seem to be causing him any pain. He is the only cat on the planet who thinks a trip to the vet is like a trip to Disneyworld - "Hey, all these people are paying attention to ME!!!" LOL!

So, the good news is, nothing wrong with Buddy.

The bad news is that apparently the litter box is haunted after all. o.O !!!
 
Does Buddy have long fur? I was going to say that I've seen my girls act like that when some poop was stuck to their long fur. :lol: I'd have to chase them down to pull it off with a tissue.

Poopy is great at the dump and run, whether it's pee or poo. He occasionally will growl at the box, too. Then again, he'll growl at a leaf, my civvie kitty, my mom, the wind.....

Glad to hear nothing is wrong with Buddy. :-D

I've noticed, a time or two, weird bugs will get into the litter box (spider, some sort of gnat, etc.). Maybe something in the litter surprised Buddy. :o
