My cat pulled out her nail somehow and is bleeding gushing everywhere... how do I stop it
what do i do?
there is no vet open anywhere right now

Not my diabetic cat... my other civi

It should have vet attention, but at a minimum try to keep her quiet and hold pressure on it. You might need to put her is a kennel. She shouldn't be running around - don't wrestle with her as any 'excitement' will make it bleed more. I really don't know what else to suggest.

Where are you located? You should definitely take your cat to an emergency vet, so, please follow Deanie's advice about calling your own vet's number and they should tell you who to call.

Hopefully you are not in this storm going through the US with ice, etc.

Depends on how far your cat pulled out the nail. She may need a stitch or two.

When you get a chance, get some Styptic powder at your local pet store, that you can mix up as a paste for bleeding wounds in cats.

Sending lots of prayers that you are able to get help ASAP for a serious bleeding wound such as this.

Well as of 7am there was no more bleeding. I took her and dropped her at te vet on my way to work. They just called me and said she ripped the entire nail out and now has only an exposed nerve. So they shaved the area cleaned it up and because of the nerve they can't stitch.
So she's on pain killers antibiotics and has an e collar. She has to use shredded paper liter for at least a week then a recheck.
Thanks for everyone's help and concrern. Maybe ill post a pic later if I can.

Aww, poor lil one! How on earth do you suppose she did that? Hope she gets adjusted to the evil e collar and the weird paper in the box. It's gonna be a long week...extra hugs and scritches for your civie!!

Thanks for posting an update! All I could remember when I read your plea for help last night, was my one cat (he is gone now) that got his claw stuck in the metal grate part of my microwave where the exhaust comes out. He was screaming and I could barely get his claw disengaged. My stomach was churning thinking about that back when it happened. Fortunately he did not rip his claw out, but those could be the types of situations when we are not around that could happen, and perhaps how your kitty ripped her claw out.

Glad to hear she is being helped, but it truly must be painful. Best wishes! Sending prayers to you both!

Well an antibiotic shot, pain meds, and an e collar for 10 days... PLUS no regular litter for a week. Ugh.

The vet said some cats are just 'aggressive groomers' and that her nail could have been loose or damaged and she just tugged hard and it came out.
So we have a recheck next Monday to see how it's going. Vet said it should heal fast.
No stitches because of the nerve exposure.
BLAH!
Poor thing keeps bumping into things with this collar on... she seems lost.
Thanks for everyones care and concern. It's going to be a long 7-10 days.

I can tolerate a lot of things, but having an exposed nerve is just so painful to hear! I hope Kitty feels better with the pain meds and gets used to her "Cone of Shame." {{hugs}}

cornstarch for immediate ,,,then take to vet
I'm going to have to remember this one since I will hopefully never have to use it!

Poor baby - give her lots of TLC. What about nail trimming to prevent it happening again? Not sure if that would help or not..
