Our weekend went like this...
Friday 7am 176 - shot 0.25U
Didn't rise until Saturday 10AM (+27 hours) 167 - shot 0.25U
Then didn't rise until Sunday 11PM (+37 hours) 166 - shot 0.25U

So he is going in general >24 hours without needing a shot.

SO 2 questions - I assume this means his pancreas is working some of the time?? (since the insulin only lasts 8-12 hours in the system??)

My biggest problem is this - I have to fly out of the country for an interview. I made the trip as short as possible (will be away from home for about 37 hours total)

I have a pet sitter who I taught to give shots, but isn't comfortable testing. I was going to leave pre-loaded needles, but that was when he was realiably on 2 shots a day, 12 hours apart.
I have no idea when he'll be shootable between wednesday night and when I leave thursday morning (if he happens to be shootable thursday morning that will be great because he probably wouldn't need a shot until friday night when I get home anyways)

I am assuming regardless it will be best to just leave him with no shots and hope for the best?!

Yes, his pancreas is clearly working some.

Yes, it probably would be best to not have her give a shot while you are gone if she can't test.

Fingers and paws crossed that he will go sailing through the time in decent numbers.

I think you already do but be sure she leaves food out for him the whole time. He is generally going down after eating so he may be able to keep eating his way into decent numbers.

yep yep! food always left out now. I have the 5 compartment automatic feeders for while I'm away also. I leave cold food in 2 compartments with some water, and frozen food in the 2 compartment where the food is in there the longest with some water and it seems to work really well, so there is always fresh food showing up when I can't be home to feed him.

I know it will be a stressful time for you to be away. But you have done a fantastic job getting his numbers down, and much better that he is being cared for a non testing caregiver with these ranges than in the 300-400 range.

Consider how far along he (and you) have come in such a short time with his numbers. I think he will be fine for the day and a half you are away and can't test. Even if his numbers do climb a little, you now understand what to do about it, and I believe you would quickly be able to get things back to this point.

You are going to arrange for food to be available around the clock. Cello seems to be able to "self-medicate" using food. I think you're good to go!

lol, I love doing this....

Lise,
This was you, less than 2 weeks ago:
The worst part about all this is after christmas I have to travel a lot. I am making life decisions and have to fly to a bunch of different places for work and job interviews. I pretty much NEED cello to go into remission or I don't know what I'm going to do as I may be relocating to another continent that requires quarantine and he can't be on insulin in there as soon as 6 months from now :( :( :(

How do people do this when they live on their own honestly??? I don't know how much more I can physically and emotionally handle.

Now look at ya!

I am in agreement with SUe and Carl!
Good luck on your interview and I am sure that Cello will be fine!
