151 PMPS, been in the blues all day after 3 units of Prozinc this morning. I gave him small low carb meals at +3 and +4 because he seemed to be dropping pretty quick. I can't stay up to do a curve, but I can probably get up around +6 or 7 (PM) during the night to check him.

My original plan was to give 2.5 units Prozinc. I at least know he's on the curve upwards. Vet seemed pretty adamant about him getting the full 3 units BID. He miraculously ate a full dry (high carb) meal, lol. (albeit I had to slowly hand feed it to him while he chilled on the rug )

DKA thread if needed, and this morning's thread

Planning on shooting in 20 minutes

the 6 test strips I have left until Wednesday )

Alayna, I urge you in the strongest possible way, to go to Walmart and buy a ReliOn meter. For $27 you can get a meter ($9) and 100 test strips ($17) (the strips are different between the models so be sure to get the right ones for the meter you buy).

I can't and am not giving dosing advice but when I look at your SS I see 3 days of data with Frankie progressing from black to red to pink to blue, and on the blue day you fed extra to slow the drop. It seems to me that you are going to have a lot more of these shoot/don't shoot decisions and is-he-dropping-too-low-too fast concerns coming up and the only way you're going to be able to keep Frankie safe is to test his BG, especially at those times when his dropping too low is an immediate concern.

$27 (and $18 thereafter) will buy you a lot of tests and a lot of peace of mind. With Frankie's history of DKA you really need to have an adequate supply of test strips on hand and, as you and I both know, the AT2 is simply not a cost-effective way of achieving that.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now, with these final words:

Nope, not affiliated with Walmart, never have been affiliated with Walmart. It's just that the logic seems inescapable to me, especially when money is a concern (and when isn't it?).

Hi Alayna,

Enid beat me to it with the recommendation to get a human meter today. Even if you want to continue using the Alphatrak as your main meter, having a backup meter that you can get strips for quickly and easily if you're stuck is a really wise safety precaution. :)

I do have a ReliOn meter! Historically he hasn't produced enough blood for it but I can keep trying. :coffee:
