Well i took jinx to the vet the yesterday and they ran some tests and jinx's sores and lesions are not caused from cancer. Apparently it is a bacterial infection which is hard to treat because of his diabetes ( cant really have the steriods which normally help) and he does not react well with liquid antibotics ( caused his poop to be red in color). The vet said the peeing and pooping outside the litter box is stress related. He prescribed him an antidepressant/antianxiety medication called amitriptyline. He says he has had a lot of success using this with cats that are stressed and peeing outside the box. I pray this works otherwise i have to get rid of him because my roommate is already fed up with it. I am going to give this med some time and hope it works. Does anyone know of places that specialize in rehabitating diabetic cats? I could not live with myself if i had to put him down. It's not fair to him. He is such a sweet loving boy.

Did the vet give you any antibiotics to help the infection? Sometimes steroids are needed and you just use them and work around with what dose he might need.

Unfortunetly he doesnt do well on liquid antibotics. I do have a shirt on him so he cant chew himself. The main issue is the peeing so we are starting there and seeing how he continues to heal. He has healed quite a bit. I still have some prednisone if he needed it. Hoping this med works. He has never acted out before.

they have antibiotics though that aren't liquid.

fwiw, i have a cat that got amitriptyline for inappropriate urination. he was diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis and was put on it because apparently when he gets stressed out his urinary tract decides to go haywire and he doesn't want to pee in his litterbox. it did help with the urination thing but he was kind of a zombie on it and my fiance really didn't like his cool play fetch kitty dude being a zombie so we switched to prozac. it too works as far as the urination thing and he's not a zombie, so just something to keep in mind if kitty loses his personality on the amitriptyline ok.

the sores might be causing him some stress so the urination thing might go away when those clearing up too

Thanks for sharing that information. This is only his second day on the antidepressant and i will keep an eye on him and see how he is behaving. The vet did start him off on a slightly higher dose and told me i could break the pill in half if it seems like he his become zombie like. Its good to know that there are other options for meds too. It's hard to tell if his behavior is different because he acts funny when he has his shirt on so he cant chew. His sores have pretty much healed since i have put the shirt on him which is good. Now we just have to get the urination issues under control.

it was real obvious with my Jr, the zombie state i mean. picture walking into your bedroom and your cat laying on the bed with his back to you. you call out "Jr" and he tips his head back to look at you. normally as you'd approach then the cat would either get up or lift his head back up and turn it around or something right? not Jr on ami. his would just hang there like "huuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh?" i half expected his tongue to fall out of his mouth. LOL!! to get his head back upright i had to sit it back up myself and then walk around to the front of him so he could look at me. it was both absolutely adorable but sad at the same time so i think you'll be able to tell for sure if Jinx goes into a zombie state :-)
