Re: New Weruva pouched foods

Will have to try some of these when they become available here in MI. Vinnie (The Vincent) loves his Weruva  Thanks for the heads-up on this.

The gravy is thickened with tapioca starch, which shouldn't affect bgs.

Why do you say that? Tapioca starch is pure carbohydrate and can definitely raise blood glucose. The vegetable gums (guar gum, carrageenan, etc) do not raise blood sugar, but only because such a tiny amount is used.

Re: New Weruva pouched foods

I'm not sure what it will do to BGs, but I will say huge hit here. All paws up on these. I didn't give it to Lilly Grace because she hates change, but the rest of the crew loved this stuff. I'm going to keep it around for those times when someone is not feeling well and needs a little extra push to eat.

The pouched foods are listed as having under 3% carbs

That is by weight, not percentage of calories. The nutrition chart that lists carbs is for the canned, not the pouches. Using the information from their chart and Janet's spreadsheet, the lowest in carbs is the Paw Lickin Chicken and that is 10%. Grandma's Chicken Soup is 25%. Using the guaranteed analysis for the pouches gives 14%. None of these are low carb. I am not trying to pick on you, but I don't think most of these are appropriate for diabetics.

Re: New Weruva pouched foods

These pouches are no good for diabetics, but Weruva has some canned varieties that are very low carb... unfortunately those are also very low-calorie; and cats would have to eat an inordinate amount of it to keep up a good weight. W
