I have tried every trick-he detects even the tiniest morsel of wet food hidden in his dry food ( science diet dm )
Any other tricks anyone knows? All suggestions are appreciated. Thank you. Shirl & nikki

Shirl,
My cat, Missy wouldn't eat any wet food for the longest time, either. I went to the pet stores and grocery stores and bought one can of everything (it seemed like it, anyway) and gave them to her one at a time until she decided she would finally eat wet food. It took a while, but eventually she ate EVO Chicken and Turkey, which, according to the chart has 0 carbs, so I got lucky. Also, when either one of my cats appetite seems off, I sprinkle the freeze dried chicken over their food and they eat. You coax Nikki into eating wet food that way. It is my 'go-to' for anything cat-related.....I shake the jar when I want them to come in at night, it's Missy's treat for testing and injection time. I should buy stock in Halo.
Good luck with that, it definitely took Missy some time to come around.

Thank you for your help.
Also I am sorry for the flame - how do I remove it-it was a slip of my chubby finger.

You can just go to the original message you posted, and choose "edit", and then unclick the candle above the message window.
So sorry hear you are having such a difficult time with Nicki and wet food. I don't know how to help. Bob always loved it. He misses the dry, but loves the canned anyway.

Also, if Nikki doesn't eT the wet food, do I then give him his dry food?
I think he has to eat as he gets his insulin when he eats.
How did you navigate that?
Thanks

Why don't you try mixing some dry in with the wet but putting on the bottom, with just wet on top but he needs to eat something. Important for the insulin but also important for him not to get sick, cats need to eat.

Are you trying Fancy Feast pates? They have lots of flavors. Also Friskies pate, a lot of choices. Maybe you just haven't found what he likes.

When first diagnosed our's wouldn't eat any wet food and continued to get thinner and sicker. We threw our hands up, went totally back to dry, and bought a bunch of the varieties of FF Classic and a couple other premium LC cans. We tried a differnt one per feeding and I think it was can #9 before we found one he liked. When we were back on the dry we started to mix in a little water to get him used to the wet food.

The only way I finally got my Civvie Slappy to eat wet was when she just stopped eating all together! I got help on how to burrito her and dropper fed baby food and prescription a/d.. I wished I would have had my magic bullet to puree the FF, but I did not. She no longer gets burritoed but she does eat wet food!!! I still have to take and touch her lips with wet food from her bowl to jump start her, but she will take it out of the bowl now.

I still have to feed her a/d so we will probably have to go back to burrito/dropper with pureed FF (now that I got my machine). But, she just would not do all of the tricks that was suggested and we tried for months! And she still will NOT eat any other wet but a/d????? She is very very picky with her food. I am trying to get her to wet food that is low carb so that I can leave hers out during the day and it would be ok if Sugar Bean 'shares' it. This will be a chore and one mommy bean is waiting on for another couple of weeks.

Good luck, just something you might want to try. Slappy does not care to be burittoed at all, but it did get easier and maybe she decided to eat wet cuz she finally realized mommy bean was not giving in to the dry.

In a pinch, Evo dry is the lowest carb you can find for dry food. That's what I'm feeding Cassie because he won't come near wet food, either. I know the wet is better for him--but he needs to eat something.

Dr. Lisa's web site has tips: http://catinfo.org/docs/Tips for Transitioning PDF 1-14-11.pdf

Instead of the dry DM, you can feed a better quality dry food such as Innova EVO or Nature's Variety Instinct. The ingredients in DM Is really poor junk food-like quality. And do keep trying to get your cat to at least eat some canned food. Some canned food in the diet is better than no canned at all, IMO.

Have you tried a little FortiFlora mixed into a teeny amount of canned, hidden in dry food or not? FortiFlora is really appetizing to cats. You can buy FortiFlora from the vet or online like at PetFoodDirect.com

Does your cat like freeze dried meat treats? If so, then maybe a diet of freeze dried or dehydrated raw food is an option. Not all freezde dried raw foods are nutritionally complete, though. Some are only supplements (no essential vitamins/minerals) so be sure to read the package. Stella and Chewy's is one good brand to try.

For dehydrated raw pet food, try The Honest Kitchen's Prowl, Addiction Pet Food Wild Brustail and Berries Entree (contains tapioca which some diabetics may be ensitive to and bgs may be affected). With dehydrated raw foods, you mix a certain amount of the powdered food with a certain amount of water, mix and let sit for a few minutes to rehydrate, and then feed. You can add more water to make it sort of soupy/gravy like which may be more appealing. Note: none of these dehydrated raw foods are on the food charts so carb content is unknown. Based on the ingredients, they look pretty low in carbs but don't feed them if you don't want to take a chance with high bgs.

There is also ZiwiPeak Air Dried Cusine which is dehydrated raw food but it comes in kibble-like pieces. No rehydration is needed. ZiwiPeak is very expensive, about $15 for a 14 ounce bag
