My dog Nike is going through a real rough patch with her heart failure and now vestibular disease. Its been a week and she hasn't improved but her hear/lungs are having a hard time - especially today. I don't know what will happen or what I should be doing for her. Most dogs pull through the vestibular disease after a week of pure hell. But I think her heart is just tired. I have amazing support on the heart forum and people that have gone through this. I think we are at the point where the prayers from you guys are needed.

Karrie, I'm so sorry to hear about Nike. I knew she had these medical issues with her heart. Prayers and vines for your sweet Nike and hugs and love to you. Keep us updated when you can.

I hope this is just a glitch and Nike's meds need to be adjusted. In the meantime, vines, snowflakes, good thoughts, and lots and lots of hugs.

I am sorry Karrie - hugs to all there. I hope this is just a bump in the road, that things will improve. Positive healing thoughts from Mannie and I.

I'm sure you know about this medicine, but Enalapril did wonders for Belle. It helped her immensely.

Thank you guys. If you could keep her in your prayers for a few more days I would be forever grateful.

Her xrays showed the obvious (enlarged heart pressing on her airway) but no edema in the lungs. But she is in atrial fibrillation. The vet we saw tonight prescribed a drug for this to slow her heart (on top of the typical heart failure medications that are worth their weight in gold). I can only ask for one more day and hope that I will save her from suffering by not waiting too long. I have to give her a chance to pull through. The vet tonight called her cardiologist at the University of Montreal to review the treatment plan also. I am so impressed with Dr. Oulette there and would recommend him to anyone.

While I was holding Nike waiting for the bill, the vet that saw Maverick - the one that agreed to treat him according to the protocol came out. We switched Nike to her after Maverick passed. It was really hard to do, but I knew she'd get good care there. She had a great vet but they were too far away. They are expensive but I found the place I was searching for all along. She came out to see how Nike and I were doing. I wish I had found her for Maverick sooner.

I can only be grateful for the time that I have with her. I know even if she got a miracle and lived another year, it wouldn't be long enough then either. I was told by her cardiologist in May 2010 that he'd expect around three months considering how bad her heart was. Up until last week you'd never know her heart was so bad. She is an amazing dog.

You are being very strong. It's all we can do sometimes, but it isn't easy. Nike has the best, as Maverick did - love and care. Thinking of you.

Karrie, thank you for sharing the picture of Nike. She is such a sweetie. I'm glad you found a vet that you really like and close by. If she was going to follow the protocol with your baby, Maverick, then she is definitely a keeper. I will be hoping and praying that the med works well and you have much more quality time with Nike.
