Nicky Bounced

Hello,

Well the title says it all. Boy did he bounce last night. I am not sure why it happened. I guess the sliding scale I have been on has not been working. I think I will keep him at 1U for awhile. Any advice?

I am taking him to the vet tonight for a scheduled appointment. It will be interesting to see what she says.

Hi Luann, Just offering some support. It's frustration when they are doing well and them BAM. He really went low yesterday so thus the bounce. I am sure the wise ones will weigh in to give you their advise on dosing. Hang tight and good luck at the vets today.

Another question - When do you start thinking about changing insulin? I will be needing more insulin very soon. Nicky has only been on prozinc a little over 2 months. The idea of an insulin depot (lantus, levemir) does make sense to me. I am just curious.

There is a very different approach to using a depot insulin, but they can work very well and tend to have a smoother curve than the non-depot insulins.

The best insulin is the one that works for your cat. He might do better on one of the depot insulin, but he isn't doing badly at all on ProZinc. His numbers are very good.

If you are thinking of changing, be sure to read the forum, all the stickies. As BJ said, they are dosed very differently.

I will not be changing. I was just curious. I took Nicky to the Vet last night just for a routine check and she was very pleased with his curve on 7-Sep-2015. I think I need the flexibility province allows me.
