Nicky - Advice Needed

You would have thought I dosed Nicky with water this morning. I am almost 100% sure it was not a fur shot. He has not been this high in weeks. Last week I was on vacation. He was with me at my house in Delaware. The other 2 cats were at home. His numbers were great.. But since I got back home his numbers have sky rocketed. He looks fine and acts fine. In fact he seems much more active. I am wondering if his interactions with the other cats is stressing him. He does get into some hissing fights with Abby, but that is normal.

My question is, am I overreacting on the dose. I tend to increase when the numbers go high, perhaps to quickly. Thank you in advanced for your advice.

It sure looks like a fur shot, Nicky. The same dose yesterday gave you some nice blues. I'd just chalk it up to a weird cycle at this point, unless it becomes a pattern.

The insulin still looks okay? No floaties?

No floatings in the insulin It is getting low though. I will have to get some more very soon. I will test again around +4. I am anxious to see what his glucose will be at that time.

Hey Luann, I was wondering if Nicky would go lower while you were away with just him on vacattion. It is amazing what stresses our cats out, isn't it. Check out Bubba's SS,he is having some weird cycles too ( 9/10) where he was high the first 1/2 of the cycle and then his PMPS was too low to shoot and I had to stall 40 minutes to be able to shoot. Go figure. Then, very high this AM......... I feel your anguish.

Hi Luann,

I saw your post on Lynn's thread and looked at your spreadsheet. If you are home this weekend -and can get some tests in, how about raising your scale overall? 1.8 for reds, 1.6 for pinks and 1.2 for yellows? I think he needs more insulin.

Hi Sue, check out tonights readings. He barely dropped at all. You would think I gave him a fur shot but I am almost 100% sure I did not. Sometimes he drops more than 50% and other times barely at all wight he same dose or higher. I am sure I am not injecting into a muscle. Is it possible I am injecting it into fat and it does not absorb? I am also starting to wonder if the insulin is ok. I am almost at the end of the bottle. The liquid in the bottle is sort of a translucent white. I think I am going to get a new bottle on Monday.

Definitely looks flatter tonight but today was a huge drop! I wonder if that drastic drop is influencing numbers tonight?

Do you give him some food when you see that kind of a drop, to help flatten him out. If you knew when he first starts down, if you could give him some food, the curve might not be so drastic.

He dropped from 301 to 72 at +3 sp I did give him some food which started him back up. He ended the cycle with a 345. Not sure if that would be considered a bounce, but it does not seem a drastic a rise as on previous days. Lets see what happens tonight. I will be able to monitor him.

Wow, Luann, and that drop was on a reduced dose! Way to go Nicky!

Hi Luann, I am reading your thread and sure can feel your frustration and I hope to learn by seeing what others do and looking at SS. Keep up the good work and I hope you will start to see a smoother pattern soon. Hang in there. :bighug:

If that's his pattern, then maybe feeding him around +2 will keep him a little higher and flatter. Is there a way for you to do that during the week?

I think that or reduce the dose a smidge. Not sure which would work best. I'd think reducing might flatten him out or he might still stay higher. Getting that drop up and flatter might help too. I am not sure which.
