Heads Up.
We just started using Dr. Elsey Clean Protein - Chicken. I ordered the 2 lb bag to see if our cats would like it. They did. So I ordered the 6 lb bag. Well when the 6 lb bag came the kibble inside was a light brown but the kibble in the 2 lb bag was a very dark brown color. Something else I noticed with the 6lb bag was that a lot of the food in the bag was broken apart and not kibble shaped. I reached out to Dr Elsey and this it the reply message I got and wanted to share it with others in case you have the same concerns/experience and to know what has happened to cause this.
"I apologize for the crumbly food. We like our counterparts in the industry have had supply chain issues. The latest was an issue with the flax growing season. Since we do not use any starch or fillers in our food, we use the flax for binding but when it was not available our nutritionists added more egg – which is good for the cat but further complicates the food holding together in the extrusion process. Again, we are working through this while still trying not to change our nutritional profile and make the same high quality high protein food however the last couple of years have been giving us daily challenges. We did run more chicken now and it does look better as far as breakage. I hope this helps answer your concerns."
*** We feed wet food as their main meals but we do leave dry out for the occasional snacking.
