Bupe is given because for many pancreatitis is painful. It’s not for HL. I actually just looked it up. Getting nutrition into the cat is essential. I looked in a vet book article. I’m going to find something less complicated. Be right back.@tiffmaxee -
Elise, do you know whether or not bupe is contraindicated when a cat has hepatic lipidosis? (Just wondering whether or not it could be given to help with the pancreatitis.)

I read that Blitzey's been diagnosed with comorbid pancreatitis after the ultrasound, hence the question.Bupe is given because for many pancreatitis is painful. It’s not for HL. I actually just looked it up. Getting nutrition into the cat is essential. I looked in a vet book article. I’m going to find something less complicated. Be right back.
Question answered! He is on bupeenorphine 2xaday

She was asking about Vestulin. So you were right. Can you answer? I’ve only used Lantus.Ugh deleted my post thought you were talking about insulin .My bad
I thought you were asking about HL.Actually I was just wondering why the vet gave insulin at 2:30 when they told her to shoot morning and night. I reread and figured she was talking about the Bupe.
I was going to say not to shoot again tonight.
My apologiesI thought you were asking about HL.
I was told the stomach bit Minnie had the esophagus and it worked well. I actually think that on that location it made it easier for her to be able to lie down and be comfortable. It can be a god send when they’re not eating and you have to give them meds. So hang in there! If it comes to that, it’s fairly easy to handleshe would start with a esophageal tube, but for now he is eating.. hoping he stays that way, I also think the pain meds are helping him eat. It seems after she started him on pain meds tues. He has been eating more.. I am hoping for ibd and not lymphoma. Which tube would be better? And thank you, I will definitely get with you about the feeding..

My mom said this morning he was playing with my other cat which he has not done in a few weeks, was just laying around, he also is begging for food. He cries at her door. He will only eat half of the can at a time but he does this a few times a day,, but I think he is feeling much better..Purina DM wet is under 10% carbs. The others are higher than 10%.
Most members in the US feed commercial low carb foods like Fancy Feast Classics. There's a food list in the sticky posts at the top of the Feline Health board. I'd be cautious about any diet changes at the moment because they can trigger GI upsets at the best of times. I'd suggest giving a little bit of time for Blitzey to get past the HL and pancreatitis and stabilise properly first.
Good news on the test result. Regarding the intestinal issues, there's a good site called ibdkitties.net. You might find more information there to help you.
How's Blitzey eating today? Are his energy levels getting better?

The samples she took should have answered that. IBD causes thickening too. The foods she suggested aren’t the best for diabetes. Sometimes a novel protein, one never eaten before, will help with IBD. You would feed only that for a month and see if it helps. Some go on budesonide which is a steroid but many can be on it without raising the bg. There’s a FB group for IBD kitties. Maybe @Wendy&Neko can tell you more and point you to the right one.So the aspirate she did on his spleen was negative for lymphoma, it is just regrowth.. So my question is she seemed to to think that if it was positive for lymphoma, that samples cause the thickening in his intestines, if it was negative then it would be ibd/ so do i get a test separately for this, He has been thru so much in the past week.I feel selfish for putting him thru all of this. Also she put him on hills prescription diet m/d or she daid to feed purina d/m or royal canin glycobalance, are these good foods...
Will talk to vet again. Thank youThe only way to confirm IBD is with an endoscopy and biopsy. It’s invasive and expensive to say the least. If you’re not planning on having a biopsy at all, it’s safe to go on budesonide to see if it helps. It’s a localized steroid that acts on the GI tract only so it should not affect the bg levels @Wendy&Neko can explain better than I can! I’d discuss budesonide with your vet as a treatment option. Minnie gets the compound version so it’s a tiny amount I syringe feed her once a day. I’d stick to the anti nausea meds as well
Sorry I should clarify that by invasive I mean general anesthesia. To me, that is but it’s not an operation. They can collect the biopsy sample via the endoscopyWill talk to vet again. Thank you
Sorry, I avoid FB like the plague. There’s a FB group for IBD kitties. Maybe @Wendy&Neko can tell you more and point you to the right one.
Was a sample taken of the intestine too, or just the spleen? Typically to differentiate SCL (small cell lymphoma) from IBD, you need a sample of the intestine, taken either via surgical biopsy or an endoscopy. An aspirate is not differentiating by itself, though it can be sent for a PARR test (test for clonality) that can help with the diagnosis. Treatments for SCL and IBD are different - so you want to make sure you've treating the right condition. Just a side note from someone on her third SCL kitty (sigh!), it's not that bad. With the right med protocol, the vast majority can go into remission. I give a daily chew treat for one med, and the other gets hidden in pill pockets once every two weeks, though can be compounded in the US. I also have to manage nausea for a couple days after the every two week pill - that's just more pill pockets. Plus fussiness, I'm one of the lucky one with a SCL cat that also has IBD.So the aspirate she did on his spleen was negative for lymphoma, it is just regrowth..

guess I am. It says needs access.I need to fix the spreadsheet
