Hello! I’m a 14 year old recently diagnosed with diabetes kitty. I’m a bit overwhelmed bc I’m a very picky eater and my mom is trying hard to find me a food that I like that is also low carb. I won’t eat ANY pate and I prefer chicken, but I’ll eat turkey and duck sometimes.

I had surgery about 10 months ago for an anal gland rupture so I also need a high fiber food in addition to a low carb/diabetic friendly non-pate wet food. Everything that is higher fiber seems to be bad for diabetes. :(

My vet recommended Hill’s Prescription M/D but I thought it was gross and my mom noticed pork was one of the main ingredients. It also has carrangean which isn’t supposed to be good for kitties and can affect glycemic levels. I don’t understand why all the prescription foods have this!

If anyone has any advice for this newbie, I sure would appreciate it. I’m trying to stay pawsitive, but it’s hard. My favorite food before I got sick was Natural Balance plateful Chicken with pumpkin. I’m currently taking 1 unit of Pro-zinc twice a day.

Lomo and Lomo's Mom..hello again. I am not an expert on diets and Idjit is a champion eater so I haven't had issues with a picky eater. I transitioned Idjit to a raw meat diet with a balanced supplement some months ago and have had great success and wonder if that might be an alternative for Lomo. I use FoodFurLife EZ Complete supplement, which can also be used with cooked meats, and when preparing the meat I make it chunky..he eats every bite and licks the plate clean.
If you would be interested in considering this option you can check out the FoodFurLife website.

In addition, you can take a look at www.catinfo.org and review some excellent nutritional information. There is a food chart on the site, here too at the top of the Main Health forum. I do know that some varieties of the Weruva brands (Cats in the Kitchen Chicken Frick 'A Zee) and Tiki Cat/Tiki Cat After Dark are textured. You can visit Chewy.com and see pictures of the food to see if it's smooth pate or a textured variety.

For extra fiber, perhaps add plain canned or cooked pumpkin (now would be the time to buy cheap pumpkin, cook and freeze for future) to his canned food?

Good luck with the search and I'm sure you will get lots of input.

I'm pretty sure. you could add psyllium husk to your kitty's food to boost the fiber content. Why does the vet say Lomo needs high fiber? There have been a number of cats with anal gland issues and I'm not recalling if a high fiber diet was recommended.
