Newly Diagnosed and New to Forum

Good morning,

My name is April and hubby is Owen, and we are new to this forum. Our Gato was just diagnosed with diabetes this week and we are so glad we found this site! Gato came into our life about a year ago as a stray, and now we are so attached to him. He's an older cat, but we do not know how old he is. We feel bad and wonder if by feeding him dry food that we may have caused his condition. Anyway, the vet has ordered our insulin and we should have it by Monday. I have been reading up on switching him to a wet food diet and also possibly a raw food diet. My hubby and I both eat a "Paleo" diet anyway, and it just makes sense to switch Gato to the same style diet.

We just wanted to say hello and thank you for this site/forum.

Welcome April, Owen and Gato! Sorry you have to be here but it's a great site with lot's of info from folks with years of experience.

Sounds like you are starting on the right track and doing some reading. There is so much to take in but don't be afraid to ask questions if it doesn't make sense.

There are some very important things necessary to treating FD - low carb food, be sure and make the transition from dry slowly, correct insulin (of course) and home testing.

Others will be along soon and asking for some additional information......can you tell us what insulin you will be using, what his blood glucose was at the vet, any other health problems etc.
