My baby girl was just diagnosed last Thursday with stage 2 CRF and a kidney infection. We are on fluids, Baytril (while we are waiting for the culture to grow out...it seems to be taking so long) and today we added pain and nausea meds to the mix. I took her to the vet because she was drinking and peeing more despite being OTJ and just seemed a little less Newkitty than usual. Now she is quite sick.

I think back about 3 weeks ago when she called me from downstairs about 2 am, (she likes me to tote her up and down stairs since we found out about her bad knees). I came downstairs and she was on the back of the couch, all sassy, one arm hanging down. This does not seem like the same cat. I know she was probably acting this ill during the Great Pancreatitis Attack of 2005 but maybe knowing about the CRF makes this seem so ominous. I would really, really appreciate any prayers or good vibes you could send her way. She is a dear, special, compassionate, once-in-a-lifetime cat.

Sending lots of prayers that she will get over this quickly and be herself once again. I know how scary this is having just gone through the same thing with my old civvie guy Squeek.

Many Many prayers! to you and Newkitty!!! Straight from sugar Bean and mommy bean!!!!

Allie I am so very sorry to hear this. Did you get het ahold of Jojo? I am sending you right now all kinds of peaceful, loving and healing thoughts. Keep her purring if you can, lay on the floor with her. Purring for kitties is healing......

Dearest Allie, and, of course, you too, sweet Newkitty,

Please include my good, strong, healing thoughts and prayers for you both. And, please know you're both close in my heart...

Really, really...

Please keep us posted when you can. You, of all moms, know how we tend to worry...

Much love and countless hopeful, healing hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

Allie, so sorry to hear about your baby girl. I'm new here. It's so difficult having sick pets. You give them a good home and pray for the best. My poor little guy Simba (cat) was just diagnosed a week ago with diabetes. I admit that I'm 100% total mess, but this cat loves me and I need to help him. All we can do is give our very best love to our pets and hope for the best. Many, many prayers for your little girl.

Love Winni & Simba

healing wishes being sent !

My Wolfie lived for 7+ yrs past CRF/CRD dx and when he crossed at 19, it was from other causes.

Have you considered other supportive measures for CRF other than Subq's ?

and Azodyl

are a couple things that helped him ( and winnie too )
and B vits and diet and keeping his BP under control....... which leads me to ask :
Did the vet check newkitty's BP? Very important in dealing with kidney disease (and for all sr. kitties)

Both Melissa and Popcorn and Holly and Spader have gathered some great resources to use for treating CRF/CRD

Yes, lots of reading and learning to do ! Just like with FD-- and you've done all that ;-)

Best wishes for Newkitty and you too allie.

I hope Newkitty is doing better and my thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

My Samantha was diagnosed two years ago, concurrently with IBD. She lost over 4lbs and refused to eat. I was panicked as you are. I tried every food imaginable(feeding tube and syringe feeding multiple times), along with Epakitin , Pepcid, and Azodyl. Two years later, she still drinks a lot and has massive pee balls, but with supportive care and some luck, she stabilized. Cats are amazing, so I'm praying once the vet figures everything out, they'll help you put a plan in place to keep Newkitty around for a very long time.

Thank you all SOOOOOOO much for your kind words and encouragement and positive stories. Every time I start panicking I read them again. I know most people IRL think I am way too attached but I don't have kids and she is getting all my maternal instincts. I do have other cats that I love very much but manage to be a reasonable, calm person about even when they are sick. Newkitty being sick just brings out the anxiety in me.

She goes to the vet tomorrow after work for her check-up. Please keep the prayers & good vibes coming!

Again, thank you.

Dearest Allie, and, of course, you too, darling Newkitty,

Keeping you both close in our thoughts, prayers, and hearts.

Please let us know how her check-up goes. You know how we all worry...

Much love and countless, hopeful, healing, and calm hugs for you both -- and the rest of your furry family,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

Me too dear Allie. Please post what the vet has to say... I so totally understand your love for your special girl.. It doesn't matter if you have children or not... sometimes those little paws reach in and snag a major portion of our hearts....
