When purchasing a human glucometer you really need to look and see how much the test strips are going to be.
With my experience I went to Walgreens and asked for a human glucometer and the lady at the pharmacy gave me one that was probably about $15. Which is not too bad. Then I asked her for the test strips and she handed me 20 test strips that were $21.99. I asked her if I could get test strips from Walmart instead and she said no because you can only get test strips that go with the Walgreens brand glucometer.
Then I asked her if it's like that with every glucometer and every store and she said yes. She also told me she would hate for me to spend that kind of money and she recommended that I go somewhere else that was cheaper. She said the test strips were going to cost me the most so I probably want to make sure I go where they are the least expensive.
So being that I had a Sam's Club membership I called the pharmacy and asked if they had glucometers. They did . They were closing at 6:30 so I had to rush there because it was like 6:15.
I bought a glucometer, 50 test strips and 100 lancets for only $30. They charge only $9 for 50 test strips, Walgreens charges $21.99 for 20 test strips. How crazy is that???
Moral of the story find out who has the cheapest test strips and get your glucometer from them. I hope this helps some of the newbies out there.
