When purchasing a human glucometer you really need to look and see how much the test strips are going to be.

With my experience I went to Walgreens and asked for a human glucometer and the lady at the pharmacy gave me one that was probably about $15. Which is not too bad. Then I asked her for the test strips and she handed me 20 test strips that were $21.99. I asked her if I could get test strips from Walmart instead and she said no because you can only get test strips that go with the Walgreens brand glucometer.

Then I asked her if it's like that with every glucometer and every store and she said yes. She also told me she would hate for me to spend that kind of money and she recommended that I go somewhere else that was cheaper. She said the test strips were going to cost me the most so I probably want to make sure I go where they are the least expensive.

So being that I had a Sam's Club membership I called the pharmacy and asked if they had glucometers. They did . They were closing at 6:30 so I had to rush there because it was like 6:15.

I bought a glucometer, 50 test strips and 100 lancets for only $30. They charge only $9 for 50 test strips, Walgreens charges $21.99 for 20 test strips. How crazy is that???

Moral of the story find out who has the cheapest test strips and get your glucometer from them. I hope this helps some of the newbies out there.

Dana you make a great point - shop around!

Here in Canada, test strips range (based on my internet searches) from $75 - $122 for 100 strips for my meter. I found this site has some good pricing for any Canuck beans looking around for good pricing.

ADW often has deals where you can get a free meter with the purchase of tests strips. Some of their Arkray meters are apparently the same as the Walmart Relions and test strips are relatively inexpensive. On my last order I was able to get 250 test strips for something like $45 or $50. The AlphaTrak strips used to cost me 5 times that much.

The Glucocard 01 is the generic of the ReliOn Confirm.
The Glucocard 01 Mini is the generic of the ReliOn Confirm Micro.

I'm not really sure what kind they are have to go home and look right now I'm in the hospital. Just getting some test done.

Thanks for the link :)! I buy my test strips at Costco (I'm in Calgary) and see that their prices are comparable.

It really started with the diagnosis of Riley having diabetes. My anxiety going out of control has put me in a little spin these last few weeks. This morning I had some chest pains and I went to the ER because I was really scared, I have heart problems in my family. My brothers had a heart attack, my cousins had a heart attack and they're all my age. 42. My mom died in her sleep of a heart attack at 67 and Grandma.

This problem has been going on for probably about 8 years now I just want some answers.

All of my vitals are good they want to check other things. I have a stress test to do in the morning but I'm feeling much better.
