Hi, I am new to the group. I was told my cat has diabetes just a few days ago and I am devastated. I am thankful for this site to help me help my cat.

Welcome! What is your cat's name? And maybe you could share a photo? :) It is a scary diagnosis to get, and it can be overwhelming at times when you are trying to learn about everything. It helps to see that so many others are dealing with it, and you can get good help and support here.

Be sure to post any questions you have on the Main Health Forum.

Welcome to FDMB Debra. I am going to assume that you are the Debra from FB with a kitty named Summer. I am Mary Ann and have been "talking" with you on the FB page.

If I am wrong please correct me.

In the meantime:

Glad to see you have made it over from the FB page.

I am just going to include a little introduction about your situation for the other members here. Debra's kitty Summer was just diagnosed as diabetic, but not needing insulin. She had a fructosamine of 245 and a blood glucose of 345 and the vet said she did not need insulin. It was suggested on the FDMB FB page to Debra that she do some home testing and monitor Summer's glucose levels at home for a few days to get a better idea on what is actually happening. I believe Debra has purchased a Relion meter and will be starting home testing to get some more data.

Thank you so much Mary for sharing the info about Summer. I got so busy reading and just wasn't thinking to let everyone know what is going on with Summer. Thank you so much!

As you are reading through all the information on here I am sure you are coming up with lots of questions.

The best place to post general questions is on the Health forum here:

As you start your testing you can include your readings on this forum and get some feedback from other members as to what the test results may indicate. :bighug::bighug:
