NEWBiE....Urine Testing and possible rebound?

I just started my cat Whitey on insulin three days ago,this will be his forth.When I checked his urine yesterday,I was so tickled to see the color on the strip had come down three marks,from dark brown to med green.I just caught him peeing and decided to do again and it was back to dark brown. Is this common? Or did I possibly do something wrong?I did only manage to catch a few drops,just enough to wet strip.I did a BG test before feeding and shooting this morning for first time,as I have only been doing mid- cycle testing the past three days.He was 210 yesterday ,180 the day before,but 304 this morning, and of course these numbers are coming from a human meter so I assume they are really higher.He is on prozinc- 1 unit 2times day.He isn't showing any signs of ketones on the strip though.I just read about sigmoyi rebound and am getting nervous wondering if he should have been started with a half unit twice a day instead of 1 unit.He seemed to be responding the first and second day,but now has jumped up again and it has been a couple hours since his shot and he is acting ravenous and antsy and wanting to hide.I did not want to poke him in the ear yet until mid cycle time.How do I know if he is rebounding without doing a curve or calling vet? should I maybe lower his dose on my own if this continues?

If these are not ketone readings, I wouldn't be too concerned. Urine testing is much less accurate than blood glucose testing. That testing will tell you what is happening with him right now; urine testing is hours later. I'd give him a few cycles before adjusting the dose. If he drops in the blues or greens at nadir, the next preshot can definitely be a bounce. Can we help you put a spreadsheet together? That way, when you have a dosing question, we can see his history and a glance and give you better advice.

Thanks for feedback.Yes I have read prozinc protocol.Just fired up my laptop ( am currently on iPad) and going to see if I can follow your instructions from yesterday on Google doc link for a template..if I get stuck I will let you know.I certainly would love your help in making sure I set up SS page correctly..this is all so new and confusing,when I see my cat taking steps backwards it makes me want to cry for him. my other five are such nuisances whenever I want to go into a room with Whitey and test or shoot.They cry and claw at door and distract us both!
