I've been lurking for a few weeks and could us a little help. After reading here, I got the nerve up to beging testing at home. My vet was so excited when I suggested it. Called me the perfect client, lol. I'm really struggling to get booboo's numbers under control. I've taken the dry food as of night before last. Last night we finally got some good numbers but right back up this morning. I jumped the gun and went to 1.5 after a day because numbers were so high. Been that way for a few months when the vet tested while on humulin. Switched to lantus and I just am at a loss about what to do now. Also, I'm going out of town and hubby will be running the show. Crossing fingers on that. He hasn't tested yet and I'm not sure how booboo will do with him. I need to adjust the shot time for him. Can he just start shooting at the new time or do we need to walk it back slowly?

Thanks

With Lantus you have to walk back slowly, what you are going to want to do is either adjust 30mins on one shot or 15 minutes per shot. So using my Autumn as an example, her normal shot time is 7a/7p and I need to have her to 3p/3a by this coming Saturday...So this morning I shot at her regular 6;30a but tonight I will shoot at 6:30p, tomorrow I will shot 6a/6p, Tuesday 5:30a/5:30/p, Weds 5a/5p, Thurs 4;30a/4:30p/ Friday 4a/4p. Saturday I'm going to have to fudge a little ans shoot 3a/3p which is why I'm shaving her dose a little to make up for shooting a full hour early...not ideal but I didn't have enough advanced notice that I was going to be able to attend his performance so I have to make it work.

Hi Beth (and BooBoo!)

Just wanted to stop by and say hi and welcome! Kit and I started this sugar dance back on the Christmas long weekend and with the help of the wonderful people here, he went OTJ 3 months later! Some days it was crazy stressful and some days I felt like i actually knew what was going on...it's all part of this dance. Never hesitate to ask any questions that you may have. It is definitely overwhelming at the beginning -- I remember the tears...oh so many tears lol...but then magically, one day, you wake up, and it all kinda makes sense and you feel comfortable with it all...you may still not fully understand why things are happening the way that they do, but you dont stress out and realize that it will all fall into place.

Keep up the great work!!! And yes...take away the dry food :) Keep on getting your data, and with the help of the people here, you'll soon start seeing some beautiful numbers. It may not be instant, but it will happen. I was once told, it is not a sprint, its a marathon. It's the most perfect saying to describe the whole experience.

I'm new here too Beth so I don't know how much my advice is worth! I looked at your SS though and you seem to be getting a better response at 3u (no "hi" & some lower #'s). Since you've only been giving 3u a few days I would stay there, try to complete the week at that dosage, & see what those numbers do. Having changed from dry food I'd expect you to see a difference because of that as well. If anything I'm learning myself to give it time & increase in small quantities only. Keep up with the chart - it's a great tool! And hopefully we're both on the way to regulation :)
