Newbie question about fur shot:)

Hi-
I had another newbie question:)

I gave my cat Trouble his injection this morning- my husband has been doing it mostly, and think I may have given a bit of a fur shot.. Just wasn't sure it all went in (or any). There was a little moisture on the fur.. but it wasn't wet (no big wet spot).. Anyways- I know not to redose- and I won't- just wondering how wet the fur gets if I miss- He is on 2 U.
Right now we are using the pen- so have no idea how little or big amount of liquid that is..It does smell a little weird by the spot. Feel bad if I missed completely! Anyways- Just wondering!

Hi, Asrael - Sometimes you'll end up with a drop in the fur off the tip of the needle. Maybe that's all it is (fingers crossed).
You'll know for sure if it was a fur shot if his number's all jiggy (high) later.
But not to worry: A fur shot happens to all of us :banghead:, even after after one's been injecting insulin into a kitty for a very long time!

When using the pen (lantus pen?) I use a syringe to draw from the pen and then inject, I think that's easier then using the pen itself. You wanna try and part the fur so you can see the skin clearly. Pinch and pull it up as high as you can and kind of roll it towards the neck where you can CLEARLY see the skin, and poke it right in there, and hold it and inject slow. I always do a quick 'smell' of the area to make sure it didn't go in the fur as insulin smells so strong.

My vet told me to inject in the flank, not the neck. Apparently the neck scruff has less blood flow so they get more benefit of the insulin if you inject in the flank.
