Hi Carol and Golden Girl and welcome!
That’s great you have set up the spreadsheet but I can’t see it. Have you pressed the share button?
Why does her Blood Glucose Levels vary from the high 200s to the high 300s within a 24 hr period when absolutely nothing has changed - same food, same activity level (none), same stress level, etc. I’m trying really hard to get her numbers down, but when they go up 100 pts randomly, I feel like there’s something I’m not addressing.
It is very normal for the blood glucose levels to fluctuate during the day and night and you will find each day is often different to the last. If you look at any of the SSs here belonging to our kitties, you will see that the numbers fluctuate. The only time they often stay very steady is when the cat is either very close to or in remission and then you will find the BGs are often much the same.
Insulin is a hormone, not a medicine like an antibiotic, so it behaves differently in the body.
Also at the beginning of the cycle, when you give the dose of insulin, you can expect the BG to be a bit higher, then there is often a food bump at +2 and then around +3 or 4 (with Levemir) you have the onset of the insulin, so you see the BG come down for several hours, before the insulin wears off and the BG goes back up at the next shot time.
Are you following either of our dosing methods?
Have a look at these two
DOSING METHODS. These are the dosing methods we use for Lantus and Levemir.
Also if you could set up your signature which is without this link
HELP US HELP YOU
The signature will give us valuable information about your kitty so we can help you.
Can you also tell us the dose of Levemir you are giving and the type of meter you are using please?
Are you feeding a low carb diet? And offering snacks during the first half of all the cycles?
Why do you think she is insulin resistant?
