Anyone have the desire to make those lovely catnip pillow toys.
And strips for one touch, accu-check aviva and/or contour would greatly be appreciated.
Running close to the edge right now...Don't let newbie kits fall dear freinds.

I can make some catnip pillows. What fabric do you usually use? Felt? flannel? I can get to the fabric store by the weekend and send them to you early in the week. I also *think* I have a spare meter (freestyle lite) that I can send. If you want it. Those strips cost a fortune. Let me know. I'll have to look for it- everything is still a mess from the move.

My catnip isn't ready to harvest yet, but I can get some commerical stuff this weekend and have a bunch crocheted up and ready to send sometime next week. Got a bunch of scrap yarn I need to use up anyhow.

Also do you still need empty strip vials? I have a couple here that I can toss in as well if you need them, now that I have a sugar cat that gets tested more than a couple times a month...lol

dancing_cat dancing_cat yay on the toys...thanks Mel, and Claudia thank you, also for the freestyle lite meter...definetely! on the material...cats like to lick these pillows so normally i would say like a polyester blend something or other...ya know...smooth. but whatever you pick out will be terrific. i am always amazed and the thank you's that come in ALWAYS grateful for the toy! 'my cat is sitting with/play with/ holding/ the toy you sent right now!'
can't imagine NOT sending one or two since the kids seem to need that magic lift it gives them.
Hugs,
Lori
oh, and Mel, no on the empty vials....i still have some and have found it not so easy to break up a vial confused_cat

No problem just didn't want to toss them before I found out if you needed them or not....Now to find somewhere I can lock myself into while I fill catnip toys...lol. Making them is no problem, finding somewhere to fill and then hide them from the Fur Gang can be a challenge. =)

 I'll bet. I know when I get a package of toys I just know it's toys before I even open it becuase Tom is all over it.
He is such a little kitten when it comes to catnip. He's a rolling, licking, rubbing, purrbox on a catnip pillow. I remember the very first time I saw him with a catnip pillow. He was not mine yet, just a neighborhood street Tom (or so I thought) who visited for food and to be admired by my girl Tiger.
He was a serious no nonsense cat....and then I turned around and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him on his back licking and rubbing his face with tigers catnip pillow :o It was beautiful!

Oh my! I would LOVE to help out! I actually crochet catnip mice, balls, sardines, cupcakes...you name it! I use 100% durable cotton (aka dishcloth yarn) and stuff them with organic catnip. The girls at work always stock up for their babies when I make a fresh batch...especially the cupcakes! ;-) Since Peaches was diagnosed last week, you all have been amazing. Anyway I can pay-it-forward...let me know! How many do you need? Where do I mail them? Oh goodie!!!! :-D

Dearest Lindsey,
You are wonderful to want to help, and so soon in your 'initiation' to the feline dire beasties.
I admit the toys would be so great to have...but we are in the US and shipping may be expensive.
Would you like to check that out first?
Any toys you send, be it 5 or 10 or 15....are all going to go to sick kitties in good homes.
But you decide if the shipping fees are too pricey ok?
I will send you a pm with my address so look for it upper left corner where it should say '1 message'

Dearest Lori,

I would love to send you a tester and empty strip holder if you could use... I bought the relion tester and now Bean only uses ever so often! GO BEAN GO!
Once I have taken care of wonderful Gumpy  , I might have a bit of spare time and would love to make up some cotton pillows. I have a friend that quilts and she has already told me that I could use her machine. I have store bought catnip - if that is ok to use. See, when you sent the gifts, Bean played with them first and then Gumpy took over and LOVES that pillow!

Ty for the pm, was doing nothing but bonding last nite on the couch w/ her...... and did not read your post til later or even this a.m....sorry, dont remember...

Very very happy that Tomtom did not have to take that terrible trip yesterday! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I just went to the closet, tryied to get Gumpy to eat some, it worked for a minute.... better than nothing I guess. I might try to get in touch w/ you after the vet visit later today  !!!!

Let me know about the pillows!

check your mail next week for the contour strips and some toys (Cedric's Mom-Mom & Grama went a little overboard last xmas).

Lori,
Sometimes my local pet store hands me a box of little cat toys that should have gone in the dumpster - still new in their packages. None of mine wear them out very often so sometimes I have quite a few extras. They're things like those little 3" square catnip pillows, little catnip mice, jingle bell balls, cloth catnip balls, feather toys, etc. I sometimes leave a few out near the feral colony to give them something different, give them to everyone with cats, etc. Are these something you can use?

These wonderful people have even given me coats for each of our rescues that go thru here that need them. They're another wonderful blessing.

Material for pillows - wool contains lanolin which is very calming for many cats. Mama's belly had that same lanolin smell those first few weeks they came into the world....

Hugs to All!
Lyresa

EDIT TO ADD: I have BOXES of material - granddaughters outgrew 'Grams' making clothes. PM me if anyone needs about any kind of material for things like this.

I've got a couple meters and some strip containers that I can send you - actually been meaning to send, just every time I plan on it, I end up giving it away.

Anyway, pm your addy and I'll put a small package together.

Q: mailing/shipping address?

Q: does this count as tax deductible? (in which case, receipts must be saved!)

BJ,
anyone who is interested in donating things to newbie kits just pm's me for my address. i don't put it on the open board for everyone to see cause ya know...stalkers.
as for tax deductions...i don't give receipts. this is kind of small potatoes.
a few meters here, some strips there, lancets, homemade rice socks and toys.
money is sent from time to time...but i have never given a receipt.
it is generally very small denominations...save 2 or 3 generous souls who helped get me started.
sooooo, if you want to send money i think you should send a check and keep it as your receipt...and pm me for my address.
Lori

Do you need baby socks to make rice socks out of? I have a ton of them in the basement, and can look and find them for you. Seems a little silly to send them full of rice since the shipping costs are higher by weight, but then again, USPS does their priority boxes by size, not weight. So...do you need rice socks? I never used one myself (Max likes having his ears rubbed, and that usually warmed them up enough for testing), figure it can't be hard to figure out. ;-)

Newbie kits is no longer associated with FDMB as far as I know. Lori is no longer a member. Maybe you could contact Rebecca (webmaster) instead as she runs FDMB's free hometesting kits (click the image near the top of the page)
