Hello Feline Diabetes Members Board!

I never had the pleasure of using Newbie Kits, but I have seen the relief they can bring to a newbie in need when Cindy was putting them together.
And now, another recent experience with Lori, who currently heads up the Newbie Kits for FDMB turned into good news for a bean in need.

Thank you Lori for your help!

I can see how it's a welcomed relief for FDMB newbies to know that there is this resource available in the early stages of treating their kitties.

So I thought I'd do a little public service announcement after having a look at the Newbie Kits link and remind everyone that you can always help out by the simplest act of paying it forward. It's a wonderful way to show our FDMB Newbie Kit organizer your support.

  • Do you have extra strips to share?
  • Do you have extra meters lying around that you don't use?
  • Empty strip bottles sitting in the recycle bin?
  • What about those little extras lancets baggies?
  • Newbie Kits is also is in need of kitty toys. Do you like making catnip toys? Share your creative side with the catnip buzz for our newbie sugar kitties.
  • Newbie Kits includes a rice sock or two with their kits. Do you make rice socks?
  • If you've got extra fresh, unopened Keto-Stix - Newbie Kits occasionally does have a need for urgent situations.

What's the best part for all of our newbie sugar kitties when the Newbie Kit arrives?

omg, just scrolled all the way down to the LOL kitty...the box is really the most important part of the kit...i must say. most of the kitties do not initally approve of the lancets etc. but they as a rule love the box!

yes i do! and i would like to know what kind of vials you have...what label? need contours and accu-check at the moment.

you can always add a label to whatever container with what is in it. cannot tell you how many I have (as in many, many) and when I get an extra few bucks, I can pop them off to ya

Ya know Dian, I'm not the most professional type person in the world god knows, but i feel kinda funny sending a newbie a vial with my handwriting on it saying what kind of strips they are. am i being too petty? i thought maybe it was important that they get the importance of not messing with the strips and putting them in different vials (the way i do!) LOL

MJ you can just send whatever you can snuggly fit into the smallest least expensive box you have. god knows they don't weigh anything.. this would help loads as i get them in 50 to a vial. there have been times i send 50...or even more to someone in particular need but would rather cut that # in half.

but i don't have that---WAH! i don't have printer..or labels...or anything..just this little lap top that has no battery and needs to stay plugged to the wall.
poor me ;-)

Lori - I will have about 60 3/10cc whole-unit syringes available if you want them (still in plastic baggies - I think ten per). I am picking up the half-units Monday and thus will have no need for these others. If you want them, please PM me with your address. Thank you.

Ok, 30-something "empties" for Contour strips (mostly for 50-count, but some 10s also)
4 boxes of 10 Contour strips exp Oct 2010 (I still have ~200 exp March 2010 that I am using up on Donovan now)
3 boxes of 100 lancets (30 gauge)
65 syringes (Monoject, 31 gauge, 0.3cc, 1/2 unit markings, short needle)

I've also made my share of cat toys in the past. One particularly popular item is what has been dubbed "featherheads". They're ping-pong balls with a rattling noise (popcorn kernels) and a poof of marabou feather boa attached. Then I draw stoopid faces on them . I must've sold hundreds of them at cat shows over the years.

I can box this stuff up whenever you need it.

lol
here is what I have so far
108 OTU 25 count
4 freestyle lite 10 count
18 " 50 ct
12 contour 10 ct
10 accucheck 10 ct
20 " 50ct
3 maxima ast 50ct
1 true track
plus who knows where I have others hid. why did i save these?? a few I use to store opened flea treatment and such.
will send when I have a few extra $
you can always black out the amount and put white surgical tape with # of strips in container or just a brief note if strips in different container. think it is more important that they get there than what they get there in

There are small label machines you can buy at most office supply stores and even at places like Wal Mart

squeeme, i don't know...that's just another expense i'm not sure.

dian, your FREAKING ME OUT just a little...ummmm, too much. i am a clutter phobe and as it is newkits is taking up space i'd like to keep free. how about the accu-check, the contour and 10 otu's (I feel like i'm ordering sushie! LOL) would that be ok? put in a small box, pay by weight and hopefully it should just be a buck or two...am I dreaming? i think it does not need any protection or anything. don't pay more!!!!

anyone have a bag of catnip? i have 30 sewn (except for a small hole) cutest little squares that would make great toys.

strips are running low...will take $1 to $5 donations and buy up ebay. am doing that tonight so don't be bidding against me!

MJ that is quite a collection of great stuff. send send send.
question...will the toys fit into a very smallish box. the smallest priority mail 'if it fits it ships' about 6inch by 8inch and little over 1inch deep. it they are bigger than that i can't send them. would love too, but might get to ...ah what the heck..i'll get a bigger box for a few special kitties. i think you may just about have covered all i need. Whoo HOO! :YMHUG: and :RAHCAT
i'll send you my addy.
is a box of 10, one vial of 10? still great.

Yeah, ping pong balls are ~1.5 inches in diameter, I think? Should fit.
The 10 Contour strips are each in plastic vials and unopened boxes. Always seemed a waste of space to me to put only that many strips in there, but whatever. Heck, testaholics can go through that many strips in one *day* (or, in one swimming-with-the-mermaids evening)

Wish I could help out with the Contour bottles. By the end of the month I'll only have five, lol. Unless you could really use them - well, I'll just have to keep collecting them. :-D

NEWBIE KITS NEEDS A NICE PC FOR NEWBIE KITS ORGANIZER!!!

Lori- I have a relion Ultima and 95 strips for it exp. 11/30/2011 (uses a micro-touch more blood than Miss Dorothy cares to part with).
also, don't know if anyone uses the u-40 syringes, but i've got a case and a half of them here (150 or so) i'd be happy to send if you can use them.

OOOHH!! and can send a bag of catnip...that should be LOTS of fun at the post office...

let me know

celi & binks

celi i was just getting ready to put word out that what newbie kits really needs right now are strips...particularly one touch...i've got about 7 brand new one touch mini's with only one vial of 25 strips. i've been searching e-bay for a bargain.
but any strips will do as i have every meter known to the free world.
please check and don't send expired strips folks...got some of those already.
and if you send accu-check make certain you send the accompaning widget that goes with those strips.
luv's y'all,
$ can be used for strips as well, that's the one thing i utterly hate asking for but if strips and money get below the limit i like to have on hand i am stuck. i will cry if i am short of strips for a newbie...i will
