Hi Everybody,

I have been on the Health board for last few weeks and have learned a gob of info in just a short time, but Wendy suggested I come over and get on board with the Tight Regulation beans and check in. Mali has had a few ups and downs and spending a lot time in the red & black :-x . I have been trying to spot check her to see her onset, nadir but have yet to get it nailed down. She was dx'd w/ pancreatitis little over a month or so ago and has been taking meds for that, but in general she has been feeling pretty good, her P's are fairly normal except at 17, she's not to amped about playing anymore. If you guys would take a look at her SS and let me know if I can fill in anything else for you.
Thanks!
RG

Welcome to Lantus Land!

If no one has directed you to the starred sticky notes at the top of the Board, they are full of information about Lantus and it's use. It's a great place to start.

In taking a look at Mali's SS, I'm wondering if you could provide a little background. I'm not clear why you reduced Mali's dose from 0.75u to 0.5u.

Please let us know how we can help. The people here are a tremendous resource and we'll do our best to answer any questions you may have.

Hi RG. Welcome to TR. This is the best place to be while treating Mali's diabetes. There is a lot of info available here so don't try to absorb it all at once or your head will start to spin. Learn a bit here and there at a pace that is comfortable for you. Ask a lot of questions and you'll do fine.

Welcome again and have a nice day.

(Where in SE Texas are you? PurrFace & I are in Alvin; half way between Houston & Galveston)

Hi Sienne,

You and Marje responded to me over in Health a couple of days ago and Marje suggested I reduce to .05 from .75 thinking Mali was possibly experiencing a bounce.

It's ok, RG. I sent Sienne the thread where we discussed this with Jill. :-D

We will discuss again today and let you know what we think on the dose. I'm still wondering if she came down again on 5/31 at night.

Glad to see you posting here.

Marje and I were chatting. I think making sure that there wasn't a low number that could have triggered a bounce made good sense. It's still possible that this could be happening but the only way to be absolutely certain is to have you test at times when you'd be asleep!! As much as Marje and I are testaholics, we try to avoid making people insomniacs! Even if there's some bouncing, I suspect the bounces aren't off overly low numbers. Looking at Mali's SS, I'd suggest you increase the dose back up to 0.75u.

Good luck with the increase, RG. Sometimes we just have to drop back a bit and try to get a handle on what is going on. Thank you for your patience. Now we can start to take her up per the protocol. Your spot checks will be valuable.

I am going to toss this out but you can decide. The before bed test lets us know if she is headed down. The +10/+11 test is a good one for both Lantus and lev kitties but especially lev kitties because they usually have a late nadir.

As Sienne said, we don't want to have you getting up to test or delaying your bed time but any time you can grab these spot check when you are up, it's good data.

Howdy everyone,

Just got a 92 at +9 which is very similar to her 5/27 readings, but probably bounced then. What do you think about keeping the .50 dose after this reading? I got a +8.5 this morning and still yawning from that one, but I will definitely get a b4 bed test tonight for sure.

Ha! This is exactly what we thought she might be doing :-D Caught you, Mali!

RG...can you grab another test please so we can see where she is? My thought would be to hold the dose a few more cycles. She must have read her condo about the increase.

I love when we threaten a dose increase and the kitty reads the posts and decided otherwise! Holding the dose sounds like a good plan.

I just got back on board and since it's 20 minutes till PMPS, I'll just wait till then and post afterwards..she has been pacing about wanting her early dinner and pretty mad that she has to wait a few more minutes. confused_cat
