My car just tested 124. I don’t know how much to dose him in a few minutes. Yesterday and today his numbers have dropped significantly from the 400s and 500s because starting yesterday, he is on a low carb diet of pates and Epogen 90. Today, his nadir was 68. This morning, I gave him 1.5 u it’s and he was 215 pre shot. Advise? Thanks
Edit....I just tested him again and he is 145. I gave him 1 unit and will be testing him for the next few hours.

Great to see you here from the Facebook group Robin!

Next big thing will be to do your "Signature". If you click on your sign on name, there's a drop down menu where you'll find "Signature".

A new box will open up and you can add some information like:

Your name/Cat's name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health problems or meds? and then at the end, you'd paste the link to your spreadsheet so when you need advice, people will be able to easily see the basic things we need to know about each cat and what kind of test results you've been getting.

I think the diet change is doing good things!

Since this is a lower number than you usually shoot, it's a good idea to get a +1 and +2 just to keep a close eye on things.

Welcome to the FDMB too!

Thank you!

Thanks. I think I just changed it so you can view it, I just tested him again and it’s been going up. Last night, used the pen to dose him and am wondering if it misfired. I had to return the first one because it wasn’t working right. When they exchanged it, they put both of them on the counter and mixed them up. I think they gave me the old one back. I have syringes that I will be using from now on. I used a syringe yesterday morning when I had to dose him 1.5 but then used the pen last night when I only gave him 1.

Welcome, Robin!

I'd strongly encourage you to use a syringe only for dosing. Aside from not having to rely on whether the pen mechanism is working, as you already figured out, you can't give doses that are in smaller increments than 1.0u when using the pen. We make dose adjustments of 0.25 - 0.5u.

If you've not had a chance, you may want to review the sticky notes at the top of the Lantus board and consider posting there.
