My 14 year old cat, Moon, was diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks ago. We started giving him Fancy Feast Classic in addition to their usual dry food, Taste of the Wild. We just yesterday switched them all to a low carb dry food, Wellness I believe, in addition to Fancy Feast 2 a day. We have 3 cats so we usually leave dry food out, hoping to be able to change them over to wet only but one cat is being stubborn.

Back to my question though. We're doing his first curve today, using a True Test meter from Walgreens. His reading was 215 so according to the vet instructions, we didn't give the insulin because it was below 250. So do we just continue to test every 2 hours and not give the insulin until tonight? Or if his numbers go up do we give his insulin then? Unfortunately my vet's office is closed today.

Keep testing so you'll see what happens.

For cats, we've found that meters with True in the name may show lower values at high numbers than other meters, suggesting better control when that is not the case. Many of us use the Arkray Glucocard 01 or 01 Min, aka the WalMart ReliOn Confirm or Confirm Micro with satisfactory results.

Also, I leave canned food out all day rather than dry.

Stella & Chewey's freeze-dried is useful as a transitioning tool. That and Evo Cat and Kitten dry ate less than 10% calories from carbohydrates.
