Hello everyone. ( I am from Hong Kong, please excuse my poor english)
I have a 8 year old M Angora which is diabetic and diagnosed Cushing's as well. He is now under 1.5 units of Lantus, twice a day, and ketoconazole for his Cushing's Disease.
He was first found diabetic since we noticed he have been drinking and eating a lot
A few months later we found a large piece of skin peel off from his body and after a few rounds of tests, he was diagnosed Cushings.
Though the vet said he was doing ok with regulating his blood glucose, he kept losing weight, from 15lbs to only around 7 lbs now, and showed very poor hair coat, dry skin, hair loss and wounds appear from time to time ( the hair on the sides of his body are almost 80% gone)
This month his condition goes really bad, he looked very tired most of the time (the vet said it's due to dehydration, we tried feeding him more water with syringes and he does look a bit better) , had very poor appetite (he is on wet food only ever since he was diagnosed diabetic), sometimes I have to force feed him, also his right front paw is twisted outward and look '"flat footed", he is limping as he walk, the vet said it's because he's too thin and has no muscle to support his paw to walk like tip toe like a normal cat, there is nothing he can do except trying to let him gain some weight to rebuild his muscle strenth
I have been trying really hard to regulate his BG by following a straight feeding schedule and insuline, but his condition is getting worse and worse, my questions are:
1) Anybody with a Cushing's cat? is there any good way to due with his skin conditions?
2) I know that some diabetic cat also had leg problems, but most of them are having problems with their hind legs, not the front, so i wonder if my cat's problem is caused by his diabetic condition or did he just landed badly and twisted his leg. His back leg is also skakey as he walk too. Should I try giving him methyl-B12?
3) is there anyway i can let him gain some weight? He's horribly skinny
I am now feeding him wellness core wet food, 1/4 per meal and he finish 1 can a day
Thank you all very much!
Winnie
