background:
Last Tuesday I took Baby to the vet because she had been excessively urinating. Baby is an 8year old female- 13.1lbs. She was diagnosed with feline diabetes and Wednesday night she got to come home.
Baby used to graze on Whiskas dry food all day long as well as a serving of wet food in the morning. The vet switched her to 1/2 can Purina D/M in the morning & 1/2 can at night (12 hours apart). He also put her on 2units of prozinc to be given at each feeding.
He told me to continue with this until this upcoming Tuesday where I was going to bring her in and we were going to work on a curve.
Baby hasn't really been herself this week. A lot of snoozing and laying around. Not being able to graze on kibble she has also been begging for food.
I've been doing a lot of research & decided to go out and buy a blood glucose monitor for home and start testing. I got my first reading today which I took prior to eating/insulin. Her reading was 4.1 mol/l which I believe is far too low to give her the insulin?
I decided not to give her the insulin & will call the vet tomorrow.
Was this the right decision? Or am I wrong with my timing of glucose reading?
Please advise on what you think
