New Wellness food called "Core"

Hi-

What about the new food by Wellness called "Core"? They have a grain-free dry. Or is ALL dry food bad?

I did a search for "Wellness Core" on the Health forum and there have been lots of discussions about it. Dry food is not good for a bunch of reasons for any cat, but lots of people have trouble transitioning to canned from dry. So if you have to feed dry for a while, the Core is one of the lowest carb dry foods you will find. Innova Cat/Kitten is also low carb. I believe the carb # for Core is 11%.

I used a few pieces as a treat after testing Spitzer.

Cat Info explains why canned food is a better choice for cats.
 
It's still a higher than wanted carb level. And dry food is not good for DM kitties. Try to transition to low carb wet food. Food makes a world of difference when trying to get your kitty into remission.

My boy is happy with his canned Wellness. But he loves dry food so much (when I give him a piece or two as a treat), that I thought maybe this new Core dry might be OK.
I will stick with canned.

Core's not new, although my PetsMart has only recently begun carrying Wellness products--before I bought it at mom & pop pet stores. I use it for a treat for my non-diabetic cats. Remember, though, it's quite calorie dense because it doesn't have grains.
 
Core has been around for quite some time, and it is one of the lowest carbed dry foods available. It is one of the two dry foods I've had in the house for the young ones that won't eat enough wet, just in case Smokey would get into it. They started out ok, but eventually started eating the other stuff around it and leaving the Core behind. The fosters did the same thing. So I no longer buy it.

Avoiding dry food is best. Core is one of the better options if you are going to have one around.
