I was wondering about home testing glucose meters. I live in Ontario, Canada and read that the freestyle freedom lite monitoring system is one of the less costly ones for the test strips and such. I was just wondering if anyone here has used it and what they thought about it.

I'm not in Canada...Some others are and will probably be around soon to help.
Walmart ReLion Meters are some of the most inexpensive and reliable around. The strips are also really cheap. The Confirm and the Micro are very popular around here. I use a different meter from the same manufacturer (I believe) and it works very well.

Welcome aboard. Remember to breathe and pet your cat. Stock up on low carb treats, like freeze-dried chicken. My Chester loves the treats that come with testing.

Hi and welcome:) I couldn't get the Relion from Wal Mart in Canada, they only have them in the US. If you live close to the border I'd suggest getting that one at a Wal Mart just for the cheap prices and since a lot of members like and use it, I tried to order it online at various sites but by the time shipping was paid it was more than what I am paying now.

I am using the Accu-Check Aviva which has good reviews but expensive strips..but you can get good deals on ebay for them. Someone had a post on here somewhere about the top glucose meters to use, I'll try to find the link :-D

I'm in Vancouver and I use the Bayer Contour and I really like it.

I think someone posted a link somewhere about there being a special offer to recieve a free meter with a sample of strips as well.

Hello from another Vancouver-ite. We started out with the Freedom Freestyle lite. Loved the small drops of blood needed, but we switched after three weeks. It is VERY inaccurate at the higher readings. Around there it's priced very similar to the other strips. I use the Relion Confirm, but crossing the border is a quick trip for me. My backup meter is also the Bayer Contour. There's an offer for a free Bayer meter inside the box of BD syringes, and you should ask at the drug stores if there are any deals on. Many will give you a free meter with your purchase of 100 strips. I've heard that some people buy their Contour strips from a reputable dealer on eBay for much cheaper.

Hello

I live in Ontario and I like the bayer contour USB because of this offer... You can get a free bayer contour USB meter and 25 strips if you go to http://www.bayerdiabetes.ca/BDoffer and use code "BDS 11-14" And then if you register the meter when it arrives, you get a free USB wall charger. Its a reliable meter.

This offer was in the flyer comes inside the BD ultra fine 3/10cc syringes you get in Walmart Canada. I used a similar one six months ago and it worked great so bayer seem to run it a lot.

The strips are expensive in stores $75 for 100 in Shoppers for example but you can get them for half that price on eBay. But of course if you get them in shoppers you can get points! I havent found a good meter that has strips cheaper than that - they all seem to be about the same price.
