My 10 yo male cat has been diagnosed with diabetes. I went to Rivers clinic on Saturday night and I was the last one in and they diagnosed him with diabetes and then they were quick, probably was there for only a half hour. They showed me how to administer the prozinc which I already knew from dealing with another cat a little over 10 years ago.. They told me to give him one increment every 12 hours but if he misses his food only give him a half a dose and then call them They didn't give me a meter. They were closed all day Sunday and they gave him a shot of serenia which I don't understand why he wasn't vomiting I mentioned that he vomited in the morning a little tiny bit but it wasn't like he was nauseous So and I know that the vomiting was from him gorging on food he got into while I was at work. So I went all day Sunday pulling my hair out trying to assess the situation I didn't know if I should give him any because he wasn't eating so he didn't get any because all online says do not give without food So if he wasn't eating then I wasn't going to give him anything and it was very stressful and then Monday I ended up getting a meter from Amazon delivered within 5 hours and so at 2:15 in the afternoon he got his first full dose because the reading said 497 then 2:00 a.m. rolled around he hadn't eaten but he was active walking around the house going up and down the steps He was pretty emaciated but still willing to go all over the house like nothing was wrong with him and he was drinking lots of water. He wouldn't take any food so by 8:15 a.m. I was able to get some food in him with a syringe and his reading was 506 I gave him a half a dose because he didn't have much food in him that did not last very long I had to be at work at 4:00 but I was able to come home at 8:00 to reassess the situation and give him another dose and go back to work so when I got home he was almost collapsed and I gave him a full dose where he had about 20 mL of food he had 14 mL of wet pate throughout Tuesday and then another 6 ml of food right at 8:00 along with the insulin dose and syringe feeding water. Periodically. He seemed to bounce back but he was still pretty much out of it throughout the night but he seemed a lot better than he'd ever been He looked a lot better he seemed a lot better but he was just out of it So when I took the reading at 8:00 a.m. today and Wednesday morning I took two readings because of the first one just said hi, it didn't give me a number. So I did another reading and that one said hi as well So I gave him a full dose with 14 ml of wet pate. What is going on Is the dose that I'm giving him not enough. It seems to be wearing off too soon and I just want to know if I should be giving him more than what he's getting? His beats per minute was 220 at the start of all this when I took him into the vet and for the next day it was still around 2:20 then it slowly went down to 200 then down to 176 then yesterday was 164 today I'm at 153 his breaths per minute have been I think started at 24 gradually down to 20 and lately the past day had been 16 to 20. He's still out of it. Doesn't have much energy he only weighed 10 lb before but he was severely emaciated last night and today he's not that bad also his heartbeat is not as pounding as it was a few days ago Am I on the right track?
