Laly&Kitiara

Member Since 2018
Hello everybody my name is Laura but everybody calls me Laly so I'll use my nickname in the forum as well. We live in Argentina and English is my second language so bare with me if I shame myself with horrible spelling or grammar !

My beloved Kitiara, a 13-yr old female cat has been recently diagnosed. We are using the flexpen by levemir and so far so good with a couple of fur shots in the first two days but I felt less stupid when I read the posts and read that it is not an uncommon occurrence.

Since then I’ve been separating the fur in the area where I lift the sking with a cotton ball drenched in alcohol (she has a very thick under-coat) and so far so good.

Tomorrow I am taking her to the vet for the first check and please do not retaliate I know that I should have started the glucose curve already but on the exact same week that she was diagnosed I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and I am currently in the low, very low point in the curve and have been dreading home checks. I’ve watched a lot of youtube videos but they haven’t given me the confidence I need. I’ve changed to a vet that is an specialist in cats. We will see her tomorrow for a demonstration and then it is up to me.

I may have to ask for your support and sympathy while I go through the process.

My vet stressed the importance of working with an encocrinologist as well and there is one at this new clinic. I do not have an appointment yet but we will see….

We are also transitioning to wet food and after a couple of failed attempts we found that she loves Royal Cannin for kidney issues which I think is good and I will try to add homemade as well when I am more organized. I read somewhere that pork meat is good because of its high taurine content. Does anybody know anything about it? I will ask our endocrinologist but I am concerned about bacteria in uncooked food… so I am not sure what to do about homemade wet food.

Well It’s been a true support to read everybody’s posts so thank you so much for starting and keeping this forum going.

With love Laly and Kitiara from Argentina.

It's so funny right? it was not the best to show her features but she seamed quite interested in the phone :) thnx your comment, feel welcomed already!
