Right. Sorry. It's hard for me to keep straight everybody's feeding schedules. There are so many different people who are feeding so many different things. It's just that if I was trying to ensure a smooth cycle I would probably bring the food over to him at certain points to see if he would munch it when I wanted him to instead of relying on him to eat it whenever. Then I would put the food back in its usual place.

it's a multi cat household and several are on special diets so the food is never left out but given to them individually whenever they ask for it all day l long. Now I understand the MC food and how to use it. He is one of the sensitive ones I suspect. You didn't tell me about the problem of what to do should he be under 200 at shot time. I want to be better prepared should it happen. One of my cats, Larry, is blocking up and I am stressed out which would be just the time for that to happen.

with all our cats on different foods, we have separate bowls and feed each one when they ask for it only and then it is closed and put aside. Consequently, I am feeding him every hour or two all day long. If he doesn't ask, I bring it to him. He is very thin right now and I am hoping that better numbers will help him to keep weight on.

I totally understand this! As you know!

And Boing! Sorry. But he's still doing great. I bet he will be back to work in no time. Keep up the good work and I hope Larry will be okay. If you want to talk constipation, PM me and I'll talk with you about it (not that you may not have already tried everything that I have.)

I’m sorry about Larry having that problem. I suppose you feed him special food? Anything else? Urine acidifiers like cranberry?

He was bleeding and peeing often 3 weeks ago and we put him on an antibiotic and started him on CD immediately. They said he doesn't have stones but he has a lot of struvites and no infection but inflamed. that was two days ago and he is bleeding again. It takes some time for the food to work. Haven't tried cranberry.

Opie is at 219 PMPS so I suspect he may go blue tonight. He is gradually going down. Maybe the 2.5 will do it given time without more increasing.

Oh, it should! Just gotta wait for the bounce(s) to clear. Those green nadirs are what 2.5u really does when he's not bouncing. You'll know he fully cleared the bounce when he comes back down to those green numbers you've seen recently.

It took 6 cycles for him to fully clear the bounce from the first green. I'm really hoping he starts clearing faster now that he's keeping it in the yellows more.

Fingers & paws crossed!

Yes. He’s bouncing from the beautiful 72. Just wait. We will see blues and greens again on this dose. Of not, we can make adjustments… but I believe that we will!

Oh, and about Larry… if he has no infection but just blood in his urine then perhaps it is FLUTD? Have the vets talked to you about that? I believe anti-inflammatories like glucosamine and chondroitin supplements and even Adequan injections (which are beneficial for arthritis in cats) are used to help with this. It’s something to read about?

Nice blues last night! And not a bad preshot this morning at all (almost blue at 200!) I'm really excited. I hope you are feeling more optimistic now than you were just a little while ago. :-) You and Opie have really made fantastic progress. I hope he's feeling well, too.

Opie is doing very good. YES, we are very optimistic now. His fur is looking better and he is gaining a bit of weight. How can we thank you enough. . . do you take donations? can we buy you a cup of coffee?

With Larry and our other 3 urinary tract boys, I am afraid to do anything to change the balance that the prescription food is SUPPOSEDLY supposed to do in order to dissolve or stop crystals from forming. It certainly has been a lot to juggle between all of them. If you prefer to PM for this I don't mind.

he sure came down. . . fell asleep and missed the +6 time but tested at +7.5 and he was at 29!!!!! Should the dose be the same in the AM?

Looks like we have a repeat of yesterday, another huge bounce in the red after a low in the green. I will have to watch him tonight. Where are you @Suzanne&Darcy ? I hope all is well with you, worried I haven't heard from you.

So really back when he had the green of 72 would have earned him a reduction. Or are you following MPM? Now I have confused myself. We switched him over to MPM because you eliminated all dry food, right?

EDIT: Opie is following the Modified ProZinc method now and the reduction point is 50 (on a human meter).

Sorry for the confusion. I’m trying to get back on track with Opie. Please add MPM to your spreadsheet at the too (whenever you can get back on Google docs). And also add MPM to your signature. This way we can look and see quickly which dosing method you are following and won’t mix you up with another member either.

Okay, so we have a plan now. Reduce to 2.25 tonight. Add MPM to you signature and to the top of your spreadsheet (when you get google docs access again.)

If you still don't have access to google docs later today, please post your test results here in the thread indicating what hour you got the test, etc. Okay?

Oh, and it would be super wonderful if you would start a new thread for Opie and put a link to this thread in the first post? This thread has gone onto two pages. :-)

I have had MPM on the SS for some time now and I added it to my signature now as you requested. I will start a new thread when I post again. I had asked about that but had no response. I have also updated SS for today.

Yes, I know that you asked about starting a new thread. I thought you were kind of stressed out at the time and I didn't want to add to that stress... I mean, there were much more pressing things going on with Opie at the time that I didn't want you to have to worry about starting a new thread. This morning, I noticed we had gone onto two pages (when I was scrolling back through the thread to see when we switched him over to MPM.) So it's not a big deal at all. I just figured that it could wait (the new thread.) Okay? And keep bugging me if I don't answer something and you want an answer. We get really busy on this Board. Even now, while I am typing this I'm getting pop ups telling me that I have another alert that I need to look at. I love helping with Opie for sure, but anything that can help me to remember the details like the food he eats and which dosing method -- in the signature -- helps a lot. And if someone else is helping you they'd need to look quickly at those things to get up to speed on the really important stuff.

Another thing that I didn't want to stress you out about is your spreadsheet. I don't know if you know how to do this, but it would be so helpful if we could have Opie's various years' data on separate tabs -- a tab for 2021, 2022 and 2023. I also didn't want to bother too much about that initially. You had a great spreadsheet and that was already wonderful and I was so happy to see it. But it requires a lot of scrolling down to get to the most current data (really difficult when looking on a phone.) We do have a wonderful member here who helps people with their spreadsheets and I could tag her if you can't/don't want to mess with it.

not sure how to do that and scared to lose data. . . if there is someone to help me out that would be great

By the way, what did you give him to bring him up when you got the 29? That is seriously a dangerous number. I hope that you gave honey/karo syrup right away. I don't know if you already did this, but because I don't know and because others may be reading this thread I will say this:

Karo syrup (or honey) should have been given immediately (rubbed on his gums if possible) and then you need to test again in 20 minutes and make sure his BG is increasing. Then you need to keep testing every 20 minutes until he's above 50 (human meter) and then every thirty minutes... to see if you need to keep giving high carb or not. Also, after high carb is given, you have to test for 2 hours after the last high carb food is given -- to make sure that he's up and will not drop back down when the carbs wear off. Karo/honey wear off quickly. High carb food will last a little longer. So after the karo is given, some HC food or the gravy from some HC food (like FF Gravy Lovers should be given because it will last longer.) But the karo will work more quickly so it's imperative to give it with a number that low.

here is the link to a new thread. . . https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/working-with-mpm-to-get-numbers-down.278095/

gave him Karo syrup on his gums and then a few greenies. . . I think we gave too much because his numbers went to 288 very fast.

Can we put the new thread on the ProZinc forum? You can stay over there if you want to, but I won't get an email when you post. Usually, because I watch the ProZinc forum, I will get an email if you post something there. We had been on the ProZinc forum (and before that you were on the main forum) so I thought that the new thread would come here.
