Hi! I just switched from prozinc to Lantus yesterday. Sunny has only had two doses so far. Last night he stayed high and flat, and today he dropped into the 70s which is great, but since the depot is still building this week, I'm guessing he's going to go lower soon. I didn't expect him to drop this soon on his 2nd cycle of Lantus. I'm not accustomed yet to what to expect with Lantus? Do you anticipate feel go even lower within the next few cycles while his first depot builds?

My concern is that my syringes don't have the half unit marks on them, and I already started Sunny on a reduced dose from what he was getting for prozinc. He was on 2.5U prozinc and now I have him on 2U Lantus. The vet wanted me to start there.

I have u100 syringes with the half mark ordered, but can't find them locally. I guess the best I can do is eyeball the reduced dose if he dose earn a reduction this week? That scares me because the units are already so tiny already on the u100 syringes.

Any advice from Lantus users much appreciated! ;)

It's a little hard to guess what is going to happen. It's possible that Sunny could bounce from the greens. Occasionally we'll see some stronger action from the first couple cycles that doesn't last.

Do you have a Walmart near you? Their Relion syringes have half unit markings, even if the pharmacy staff don't know that. The other option, though not sure how much easier it'll be to source is to use digital calipers to figure out the dose. Post including video here: Dosing with calipers Some people got their calipers from Harbour Freight. My hubby got mine for me at his favourite tool and metalworking shop. Car repair places should have them too. Or you can eyeball the amount, and use coloured liquid in a sample syringe that you can use as a template for each time you fill the syringe.
