Hi all,

I recently purchased a new brand of taurine powder for Moritz as I of course can no longer get the kind I used to get for him while living in Germany. I purchased from Source Naturals:

http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Ta ... ode=LIS675

It appears to be a good product. It doesn't explicitly say that taurine is the only ingredient but does say "

Suitable for vegetarians and Hypoallergenic: contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, corn, soy or wheat. Contains no sugar, starch, salt, preservatives or artificial color, flavor, or fragrance."

I'm a bit concerned because inside was one of those freshness packets. I of course took it out, but paranoid me (what's new?) is concerned that the substance inside might be harmful, and I'm worried some could have "leaked" into the taurine powder itself.

Again this is probably me being totally paranoid, and I apologize for bothering you all with what may be a silly question. I'm just always a bit nervous when starting on a new product/ new brand of product.

Thanks so much for your help and greetings to all the kitties!
Elena

I did a web search for "freshness packet".

It seems that most of these contain silical gel - a non-toxic kind of sand.

Here's Consumer Reports post.

Ask questions when ever you need. I actually had a cat that was given silica, prescribed by my vet when we were stationed in Germany. I diluted it in warm water and syringed it into her mouth. So I don't think it would be harmful.
