New source for cheap testing strips - possibly

I kept seeing road signs - "Diabetic testing strips - paying cash" and a phone number.
I called. Seems that diabetes supply houses are deluging human diabetics with more test strips than they'll ever use in a lifetime- (and Medicare/You are footing the bill) - so this guy is buying up unused boxes. I didn't get into price, brands etc. cuz Joey right now is not needing many- but got me thinking. If he's buying them up, then he must be turning around and selling them at lower than retail.

Anyone know about this? Should I investigate further? What else would you want to ask this guy?

One thing I DO know - those strips aren't cheap. At my CVS, the strips work out to over a buck a piece.

Seems like lots of people sell their extras on eBay. Some of the boxes I've received are marked "not for retail sale" or some such.

Ruth,

It certainly wouldn't hurt to give a call. You never know, it might be a person with a soft spot for pets who would sell to you at his/her cost.

Finding less expensive strips would make me happy. "We" have only been diabetic for about 6 months, but I've spent several hundred $$ on strips. Maybe I test too often! I use OneTouch Ultra II - metre was free with 100 strips at $85. I'm in BC, so would definitely buy less expensive strips, as long as they are the same quality.

We bought our strips on ebay for much less than half the price in the drugstores. Just be sure you check the seller's reputation and the expiration date.

I find ads for that all the time in my area on craigslist. They are offering to buy up boxes for 5 or 10 bucks for brand name strips, but they do always say in their ads they are giving them to those who are uninsured. Not sure if they would consider cats uninsured, but it wouldn't hurt to ask I suppose!

I DID call. I had to hear a ten minute diatribe against Medicare paying for unneeded test strips. Well, I guess LIberty et al have to pay those ex-actors plenty to pitch their plans on tv.

If I ever need strips, I'll call him like someone new and green and see what he's offering. Just trying to make a buck buying and selling, I guess.

If they could get the fraud out of Medicare, maybe my premiums would go down or my bennies go up. Off soapbox now.
