It has been quite a few years since I've been here so I'm a "returning" member ;-)

I think it was back in 2004 that my kittie PJ was first diagnosed as a sugarkitty. She was on insulin for about 8 months and went on honeymoon until now. I "think" I was under the name Paula and PJ but couldn't swear to it - tried to pull up the old board but it wouldn't let me :-|

PJ has always had skin allergies and ONLY when very severe I have taken in for a depo shot when she has sores. So this a.m. had hubby take her and guess what sugar was 457  Really the only symptom I noticed in the last few days was drinking a lot of water at one time and then throwing it up and she has been eating a good bit more (cleaning all the other kitties plates for leftovers).

I talked w/the vet and she knows I'm not a newbie at this although it's been awhile. She says the new insulin Prozinc is good and I noticed the Prozinc site has a link to this website. I'll need to go to the store and get all the needed supplies and hopefully she will be a good girl like she was so many years ago :YMSIGH: So, here I am again - I will post again when I know more details...I still have all my charts and graphs from the old days and will have to dig them out as well.

P.S. - if it had not been for this web site I would not have been able to handle this when she was first diagnosed back in 2004. Everyone was such a tremendous help and I met many new friends :YMHUG:

Sorry you had to comeback. ProZinc is a good insulin. It is a U40 insulin (40 units per ml) compared to a human insulin which is U100 (100 units per ml). Y can use human U100 syringes for a U40 insulin and that results in more accurate dosing.
With a U100 syringe yucan does a U40 insulin by:
Fill the U100 syringe to 1/2 unit results in 0.2 units of the U40 insulin
1 unit is 0.4 units U40 insulin
1 1/2 units is 0.6 units U40 insulin
2 is 0.8 units of U40 insulin
2 1/2 is 1 unit of U40 insulin

Thanks for the info Larry - I'll have to revamp on all the diabetic details but good to know about the U40 vs U100. I'm SO glad things have advanced and there is an insuline for cats. Kitty diabetes is SO different than dog or human diabetes but then, that's a cat for you - always special! ;-)

Thanks Sue - I will check out the PZI. I guess I'm a semi-newbie since some things have probably changed w/kitty diabetes since PJ was last a sugarcat.

Thanks Hillary!

Geez, blast from the past...Lisa and Gorb. I have a magnet photo frame that Lisa sent me (some kind of free drawing or something) that says "I'm sweet as sugar".... still have it on my fridge w/PJ's picture in it. :-|
