Hi all. I’m getting ready to start my Runt on PZ for the first time, likely this Friday evening since I’ll be home through the weekend with her. She was diagnosed 26 JAN 26. We have the insulin, U-40 syringes, and dvm told us to start with 1 unit every 12 hours for her. Her # during initial bloodwork was 553, and last Tuesday down to 425 on next vet visit. Unfortunately, she developed an infection (vet stress likely), we think UTI but didn’t take her back; just treating with antibiotic.
Food switched to FF pate, some Sheba pate, cooked plain chicken and broth, and ordered YA LIP yesterday as she loves dry food.
Also got the ReliOn glucose monitor today and ketone strips.
Next steps:
- Learn to test glucose on the ear
- Get her eating more (still on antibiotic, eats little more than can/day currently); down to 9.7 lbs at vet last week
- high carb dry food removed from diet
- start insulin Friday evening on the 6am/6pm schedule
- Figure out of SS is linked and how to link if not from iPhone
I’m sure I’m missing something…Runt seems to be doing better; not hiding as much, sleeping in bed with me some at night, and even crawled under blanket with me last night for about 20 minutes. We’re now ready to start insulin to get her back to health.
