I just saw a new glucose meter for pets on Amazon. It is called Advocate and cost $21.95 for the starter kit. 50 strips are $24.98. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. The price sounds good. The reviews look good. I was thinking about getting one as a spare.

The price of the strips is expensive, $2.00 per strip; plus shipping. Plus how widely available are the strips?

I would recommend the Wal-Mart Relion brand meters if you want a spare. Both the meter and strips cost a lot less and it is a good meter

The Advocate is the "new kid on the block" in pet meters so we don't have a lot of experience with people here using it...I only have seen 1 or 2 others even start with it

There's no reason you need a "pet only" meter though....All our protocols were written with human meters so they work fine.....the vast majority of us use human meters here with the Relion Confirm or Micro from WalMart being the favorites

Lisa, where did you find your numbers. Amazon has the Advocate strips $24.98 for 50 strips. No shipping charges. I think it is a good price. With the Advocate system, I won't have to learn any new numbers. My vet sent me home with the AlphaTrack2 and the Vetsalin when Callie was first Dx. I found out that I could use the FreeStyle Light strips for $35.99/50. Both the FreeStyle light and the Advocate are covered by Amazons Prime program. That means no shipping costs and 2 day shipping.

I like the AlphaTrack system. If I can get a back up system that is reasonable in cost and I don't have to adjust to new numbers, what's wrong with that? I'm an elderly old lady. I don't want to learn a new system. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I totally understand the appeal of a pet meter. I loved my alphatrak. So glad i switched to walmart relion micro or i probably would have spent $800 by now on test strips.

While the advocate strips are not as cheap as relion micro (i get 100 for $35), its a lot cheaper than alphatrak. Could be worth it if you are really hooked on the pet meter numbers. Let us know what you think if you get it!

I've put an enquiry in to a company selling the PetTest meter on Amazon UK to ask whether they also supply the strips and control solution for use with the meter and, if so, how much they cost. I'll post an update if I hear back from them.
