Tried and im not comp savy so.... when at vets numbers shoild be around 250 ? Anybody have good or bad things to say about purina dm dry food? Thx

The D/M is too high in carbs but besides that, all dry foods can cause a lot of trouble in other ways.

Read some of the info on Dr. Lisa Pierson's Feline Nutrition site for all the reasons why we say "no dry food"

As for the 250...most vets would be happy with that, however we aren't. That's still at a level where it can be doing damage to their kidneys and isn't helping to heal their pancreas at all.

Cats have the unique ability to have their pancreas heal and resume producing insulin, but to do that they need to be kept in normal numbers...50-120

Vets usually recommend keeping their patients too high because they don't recommend home testing (or don't know it's possible) so think it's better that they run too high than take the risk of running too low (of course home testing is what would answer this question but most vets still don't ever discuss it...probably because they think most people would choose to euthanize instead of doing the "extra work" of home testing

She was doing great on wet food until yesterday, didnt eat much this am so no insulin shot. IM going to not feed dry food tonight and see. if she gets hungry enough to eat wet.

Check her glucose levels; if she is high, a token dose may help her feel better, bring the level down, and possibly help her be hungry.

I think im going to switch back to friskies pate and take the DM dry food back and get refund. She eats but she has diarrea bad and she even stepped in it twice and got it everywhere and on her paws. And she has been drinking ALOT of water.

I've tried making some instructions on how to edit your signature

Adding that information will really help us.

I think you're making a good decision by returning the dry. Just say your cat won't eat it. No need to go into details if you don't want to

Have you been keeping track of your tests? One of the most important tools we use here is our spreadsheet. If you need help getting it going, just let us know. We have several people who can start it for you and explain how to keep up with it (once it's set up, it's really easy...you just enter the numbers)
