Am I supposed to be testing every hour? I'm not sure what to do. I read the information on Lantus and it's overwhelming to understand.

How to Test a Fractious Cat

A mid day test is more likely to tell us if this dose is too high. And yes, since you are new, we recommend no shot if below 200, unless kitty was diagnosed with DKA or ketones.

Please get a +3 test. That was a big drive down to +2.


We don't decide how to dose based on preshots, but rather by the nadir or how low the dose take your cat. Lantus is great at keeping numbers flatter when you shoot a lower dose. But that's not what we suggest to new people.

I would not have shot that 107, you don't have enough data to do so. If you see a number in the low 100's, test again a couple hours later to see if Boo's pancreas has taken the number down below 100's but without injected insulin.

Ok thank you. I wont give insulin unless its over 200. This seems to be the plan going forward? If theres a better plan please let me know.

When you are new, we recommend no shot if under 200. Over time and as you gather data to do so, you can shoot lower. But not yet.

We do actually have an even smaller dose we call 0.1 units, which is just above the zero line, should you need to shoot again. Might try that if needed.

Ok thank you. I'll need to get different needles aa I've been eye balling the other ones. The frequent wet meals seem to be working. He's much happier.
