Welcome to FDMB.

Thanks for getting your spreadsheet set up. It's very helpful. If I could ask for one change to the spreadsheet. Could you insert a blank line above where you started Lantus and note that you change insulin? It took me a bit to see where you made the switch and it will be helpful if the change is more obvious. I'd also suggest removing your last name from all of the public documents. We do have spammers show up and we encourage everyone to protect their privacy.

Lantus is a very different insulin than Vetsulin. It relies on a depot which give Lantus a much gentler profile and a longer duration. Practically, what that means is that it takes roughly 5 - 7 days for the depot to form. Until the depot stabilizes, there's a good chance you're not going to see all that much action from the insulin. And my guess is that you'll need more than 1.0u. Vetsulin, on the other hand, is what we refer to as an "in and out" insulin. It hits hard and is then out of your cat's system in less than the 12-hour cycle. This is a link to the Lantus forum. There are sticky notes at the top of the page that will give you lots of information about Lantus and importantly, on the dosing methods we use. I would continue to post on this forum -- Health -- until you get some of the basics we. use in place.

One of those basics is to create a signature. The information on how to do this is in a post we refer to as helping us to help you. The signature will give us information about your cat so we don't keep asking the same questions repeatedly.

One of those questions is what you're feeding your cat? We recommend a low carb (under 10%) canned food diet. If you need recommendations, we have food lists.

Please let us know how we can help.
