Good afternoon all,
My name is Jen and I just wanted to introduce myself and my newly DM dx'd boy Neo. He has pododermatitis for which he has been on prednisolone for years which resulted in his DM.
I know everyone is anti dry food and I feed mostly canned friskies pate, but my kitty is a grazer and a treat addict and I didnt realize the crazy carb content of the what we were using (temptations and Purina indoor healthy weight-yikes!). I'm curious if anyone has any experience with young again brand dry cat food?
I'm trying out the zero mature line:

Have you thought about the freeze dried foods available instead of the dry food? They are low carb and many cats that are dry food addicts like the freeze dried foods.

I have read that some members have said that the Young Again caused diarrhea , but each cat is different

Thank you all for you replies. We've been on the young adult zero mature >1%carb kibble for weeks now. We are having issues with loose stools, nothing excessive but I can tell his bottom is sore and at 22lbs we have to work together on hygiene. I read the reviews for the other kibble but there were def listings of others experiencing the same thing. My questions are... does this eventually normalize out? Also, I know psyllium is cat safe fiber (Metamucil), anyone have experience with succeeding in adding this as a bulking agent after eliminating grains?

At least the conventional wisdom is that if Young Again is causing a GI upset, you may have transitioned too quickly. That aside, Metamucil is fine. I've used a particular probiotic -- S. boulardii -- when any of my cats have had a problem with loose stools/diarrhea. It's often recommended for cats with IBS. Both Jarrows and ReNew Ultimate have S. boulardii. You start with about 1/4 of a capsule mixed into food.
 
Yes, I agree that this is indeed what happened but since we are 2 weeks in and the deed has been done, is this something I should expect to normalize without intervention? It seems to be getting worse and I'm considering just transitioning to a full wet diet (lol which doesn't sound like it works fix a loose stool issue either) . I'm also using the stella and chewy rabbit freeze dry for med time as treats hoping it would help since it had some probiotics and was dry but fear that may be compounding the issue since some reviews also state it gives the same issue as does any transition from grain free to high protein/fat it seems... I'm a bit at a loss since I didn't realize I needed to go slower and i don't want to stress him any more... maybe I'll try the Metamucil in the short term... thank you again
 
You may need a heavier duty probiotic than what's in the Stella & Chewy's. My experience with the S. boulardii is that it can fix the problem in a very short time.
 
Agreed, after some research I ordered some same day from Amazon and are waiting on arrival, thank you so much for the advice, lol probitics work wonders for me so I'm definitely on board!
