New Member This Week - AMPS 154 - Should I give Insulin?

Good morning,
I just started home testing this week and I am not sure how low is too low in the morning not to give insulin. He is going to the vet later today for an abdominal ultrasound so I won't be able to monitor him. Thank you in advance this is a bit overwhelming sometimes.

I'm sorry no one got back to you earlier.

I would not shoot 154 on an AT2, not right in the beginning. On this forum, we usually use 200 as the cutoff when new.

One thing you can do in this situation (next time), is to stall: don't feed, wait 30mins, test again to see if he's going up and it might be safe to shoot. It's also good practice to re-test immediately if you get an unusual number-- sometimes it's a bad strip.

If you did shoot, how long will you be home before the vet visit?

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking 200 was the cutoff and didn't give him any insulin. I will be packing him up here in a few minutes for an 8:15 drop off.
