Hope I'm doing this correctly . . . .

My 18 year old Blondie Zak was just diagnosed with Diabetes this morning. He needs to stay at the clinic until it's stabilized/regulated.

Zak also is a HT FurBaby , so we're dealing with both issues.

I hope you all can direct me in the directions for his comfort and healing, I know it's not going to be easy, I'll do my best. I had a FurBaby that had diabetes, he passed in 2014 at the age of 17, but I had no guidance back then, maybe things could have been better.

I'm not gunna lie, I'm terrified dealing with Diabetes, HT and family factors. Like I mentioned above I'll do my best and I know with all of your knowledge, experience, love and comfort Zak and I will wade thru all this.

Thank you for having us

Do you home test Zak's blood glucose? Do you keep track of his numbers? We are data driven here. We highly recommend home testing. Its IS the only way to make sure it is safe to give insulin.
What type of Insulin are you using?
Here is a link for home testing :

Zak was just diagnosed late this morning, he's still at the clinic, staying overnight, they're going to get him stabilized, so, nothing on my part as of yet. I will know more hopefully tomorrow. I don't knowhow long it will take to get him in a stable place. . . .

Thank you for responding!!

I'm not sure I can handle this situation, it's so complicated . . . Read the Q4 and a bit more, way overwhelming and I just don't understand any of it at all. . . .

And that is what we are here for. To guide you every step of the way.
People here have lived or are living feline diabetes 24/7, and they have done the scholarly research.
Feline diabetes is a steep learning curve. We can help you with that. It will become second nature very quickly. I promise.

Welcome Patti and Zak!

I know it may seem overwhelming at first but it becomes part of the routine. Do you know what insulin they’re putting him on? The gentler long lasting ones like Lantus and prozync are typically better for cats. What kind of food does Zak eat right now?

Like Zak is HT and his meds are transdermal applied to the ear, will that have an effect on anything?

Thank you for loving my Zak . . .he's above and beyond the sweetest angel ever! We're still struggling with the T4. . . his test today went up some, we were doing so well. I'm not sure if this diabetes situation and stress can cause the T4 to go up . . .I belong to a T4 Group for that . . . everything is so overwhelming. . .

(((((Patti))))) Its going to be ok. True I dont know about TH but there are folks here that have cats with both. It is overwhelming.I wont deny that. My cat only had FD and I was overwhelmed. Perhaps me posting that link was too soon just because this can be so overwhelming. Its a lot of information to digest while trying to cope.
The people here are caring and loving and willing to help you navigate this disease, how bout giving them a chance. We wont judge because we've been judged. We know...:bighug:
